Tonight’s adventure was a dream come true for a starstruck Clara who finally got to meet one of her lifelong heroes in the form of Robin Hood. Her idol was brought to life – bow and all – by Tom Riley, but the Twelfth Doctor was seemingly less enthused by their encounter…
When the mystery of the Robot of Sherwood began to unravel, our Time Lord was forced to strike up an unlikely alliance with the infamous outlaw as they joined forces to save the whole of Nottingham from the threat of an evil, and inevitably alien, plan. The episode also guest starred comedian Ben Miller as the storming Sheriff, but will it go down in history?

Wow, there are some biting opinions of Classic Who episodes! To be fair, the worse Classic stories have to be Horns of Nimon and Four To Doomsday! (Couldn’t resist)
Regarding this story – Oh dear! Camp stereotypical interruption of Robin Hood! I feel sorry for Peter Capaldi. His first 3 stories have been very poor. He has nothing to get his teeth into. Clara continues to be a poor replica of Amy!
I used to complain about RTD and his type of story telling but the reality is, is that RTD understood the Doctor, Moffatt doesn’t! What makes it worse, is that before he took over, he seemed to understand the character very well or at least appeared to! What really galls me is during an interview, Moffatt implied that Terrance Dicks and Robert Holmes were not as good as himself! Arrogance!
Ben Millar was excellent and for the first time, took a role where he did not camp it up at all! I expected him to be more like his character from Primeval but he was so much better.
I am border-line on giving up on Who now after 45 years of watching the show. For all it’s wobbly sets and other issues, classic Who stuck to a great formula, had some excellent direction and some of the best writers.
As the ratings continue to slide, I wonder if the BBC are putting pressure on the show by allowing Moffatt to continue in much the same way they allowed JNT to run the show into the ground!
I think my main issue is I know how good Doctor Who can be, I wouldn’t have become a fan otherwise and I want that feeling when I watch the show.
We get a maximum of thirteen episodes a year, thirteen chances to enjoy the show before it disappears for another year. If that feeling of enjoying the show, like I used to have, isn’t there, it’s kind of disappointing, if that makes sense.
It means I’ve essentially only got ten episodes this year, which may decrease further.
I know the more aggressive in the community will attack me for whining or moaning or whatever, but like the majority of us, I just want the show to be good.
It’s because I’m a Doctor Who fan, because I don’t blame Peter Capaldi for the quality of the episodes so far and because I want one or more of the remaining episodes to feel like the Doctor Who I became a fan of, that I’m going to continue to watch the series.
To be honest, it’s the Doctor Who fan in me that HAS to watch the show, despite whatever I may think. I want Series 8 to prove me wrong, I really do.
