victory-of-the-daleks-overnight-ratings

Overnight ratings have now been released for last night, and they show that an unofficial audience of 6.2million tuned in for the BBC One debut screening of Episode 3, Victory of the Daleks, by Mark Gatiss.

This makes it the second most watched programme of the day, with 32.7% of the television share. Britain’s Got Talent managed to obtain its own victory, taking home the top spot with an audience of 10.6million, a 44% share. 231,000 watched the return of the Daleks on BBC HD.

Meanwhile, 0.59million watched the episode’s accompanying instalment of Confidential, War Games, on BBC3, and an additional 0.12million when it aired on BBC HD.

Finalized figures will be released by BARB in a couple of weeks. It’s worth pointing out that this week the BBC One ratings won’t be added with the HD statistics, as the episode wasn’t simultaneously broadcast on the channels. As always, we’ll keep you updated!

The Doctor has been summoned by an old friend, but in the Cabinet War Rooms far below the streets of Blitz-torn London, it’s his oldest enemy he finds waiting for him. The Daleks are back - but can Winston Churchill really be in league with them?

The return of the Daleks is always an exciting - albeit terrifying – time of year, and in tonight’s highly-anticipated episode, we saw them as we’ve never seen them before!

Of course, the Daleks combined with Winston Churchill was always going to be an interesting affair, and, with the added backdrop of a Blitz-torn London, it had all the makings of a Doctor Who classic…

For the Doctor and Amy Pond, it was a case of third time unlucky, as they were faced with their biggest challenge yet after landing slap bang in the middle of the Daleks and their most audacious plan yet. But did the adventure, penned by Mark Gattis, deliver?

It’s that time of week again! Will Victory of the Daleks go down in history, or is it set to be come a distant relic of the forgotten past? How does it compare to previous Dalek adventures? And what did you think about seeing the newly redesigned Daleks in action?

As you can see, there’s lots to dissect, so feel free to share your reactions in a comment on this discussion article! As always, you can also give the story a star rating out of 5, and don’t forget to pop over to our homepage to leave your mark in our episode poll!

So… what are you waiting for!? Dis-cuss and raaaate! Dis-cuss and RAAAAATE!

release-date-for-first-adventure-game-set

The trailer for Doctor Who: The Adventure Games which aired at the end of Victory of the Daleks confirmed the release date for the first instalment!

From Saturday June 5th, the first of the four two-hour games will be available to download for PC and Mac from the official website, and, as tonight’s intreguing preview revealed, it’ll give us the opportunity to be the Doctor from our own living rooms as he battles the new-look Daleks in a nightmarish vision of London in 1963…

In addition, the official website are inviting fans to submit their very own game-related questions to its writers Phil Ford and James Moran! A handful of them will be put forward to them at a special launch event for the games, which will take place in Sheffield on 21st April.

Meanwhile, they’ve also released the first Insider’s Update, in which one of the Executive Producers for the games, Charles Cecil, reveals: “Working on this project has given me the privilege to work closely with the series’ production team at BBC Wales. From the start Steven Moffat, a video game fan himself, was hugely supportive. The set design team included elements in the TARDIS that we needed for the game, and were very happy for us to create the artwork that defines the look of Skaro.”

He finishes: “‘The first episode is at ‘alpha’, meaning that it can be played right through, and that the graphics are close to the final quality. There is a lot of work going on to take it to beta, due at the end of April, at which point the game will be effectively finished with only minor issues remaining to be fixed.”

mark-gatiss-hopefully-writing-for-series-6

DigitalSpy have released an exclusive interview with Mark Gatiss, in which he drops some last minute hints at what’s to come in tonight’s episode!

“Churchill calls the Doctor in because he has concerns about this new secret weapon Bill Paterson’s character has invented called The Ironside,” he teases. “When he gets there the secret weapon is the Dalek. According to all the evidence they’re exactly as they say – man-made weapons – and the Doctor is the only voice saying ‘No!’”

He goes on to reveal that he’s in talks to write another story for next year’s series. He revealed: “I recently was sent a few of the upcoming episodes because I’m hopefully writing one for next year so I needed to get up to speed with where it’s going.”

DigitalSpy have also posted a Q&A session with Ian McNeice, the actor who portrays Winston Churchill in tonight’s episode.

regeneration-limit-mystery-to-be-resolved

Many of you will be aware of the ongoing mystery surrounding the Doctor’s regeneration limit. In the Fourth Doctor classic series serial, The Deadly Assassin, it was established that Time Lords can cheat death through regenerating twelve times before they ultimately ‘run out’ of regenerations.

It’s already known that the Master has regenerated more than twelve times through various nefarious means, but the Doctor’s own lifespan has always been uncertain…

Ever since The Deadly Assassin, speculation amongst fans has been rife as to what will happen when the Doctor finally reaches his ’final’ incarnation. But Steven Moffat has hinted that, over the course of Series 5, we’ll finally be given some answers!

Speaking exclusively to Newsarama at the US Series 5 press launch in New York City, he revealed: “It’s been addressed in a very, very cheeky way by an old friend of mine and I’m not going to tell you any more about that,” before informing viewers to simply “wait and see”.

Meanwhile, regarding this year’s story arc (already the cause of much debate in our discussion!), the showrunner teased: “You’re going to have to think about it and find out what it is, but it’s in there. And that’s the one, that’s what takes us through the whole series and my god, it’s bad.”

Series 5 of Doctor Who continues this Saturday with Episode 3, Victory of the Daleks!
