Pearl Mackie has revealed a few more teasers about Bill’s personality in a recent interview with the Guardian.
The actress, who was announced as the Doctor’s brand new companion back in April, will make her official on screen debut in Series 10 next year, although she admitted that her life has already started to change. “I was in my friend’s shop the other day and this French guy comes in,” she said. “I told him, ‘I don’t work here, but someone will be with you in a minute.’ He says, ‘Non, non, non! You are Pearl Mackie, yes? Can I take your picture?’”
Despite Doctor Who being “the biggest part” she’s ever had, she added that she’s “having the time of her life” working alongside Peter Capaldi, as she explained: “The Doctor and Bill complement each other. Bill is funny and geeky and vulnerable. There is a goofiness to her and a big heart, but she gets things wrong and she has a temper. I knew her straightaway.”

Following its disappointing lack of precence at San Diego last month (there’s always next year…), it has been announced that the Whoniverse will be setting its sights on New York Comic Con instead!
As part of BBC America’s takeover on Friday 7th October, both Doctor Who and its upcoming spin off Class will be getting their own Q&A panels at the event. The Doctor Who panel will include Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie, Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin who will be presenting an exclusive preview of this year’s Christmas Special and beyond.
Meanwhile, the stars of Class – that’s Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah – will join its creator and writer Patrick Ness and executive producer Brian Minchin for their first ever panel to discuss the highly anticipated series which will finally be hitting our screens this autumn. The 8 part drama is set at Coal Hill School where dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space. There may be some familiar faces too…
Tickets for New York Comic Con are on sale now. Let us know if you will be in attendance!

The latest Doctor Who Magazine is about to materialise and they’re taking a trip into the future to introduce us to our brand new TARDIS team!
Although Series 10 won’t actually hit our screens until 2017 (as if you need reminding!), it’s business as usual for the cast and crew who are working their little socks off in Cardiff – and, this week, Spain – to bring the Twelfth Doctor’s third string of adventures to life. They will introduce new companion Bill, as played by Pearl Mackie, and welcome back Matt Lucas’ Nardole from The Husbands of River Song.
Inside DWM #502, outgoing showrunner Steven Moffat and casting director Andy Pryor discuss what fans can expect from this exciting new dynamic, plus there’s the usual array of in-depth features, competitions, comics and more. In addition, the issue – which is on sale this Thursday (28th July), priced £5.99 – comes with 3 free posters and 4 art cards.

As production on the brand new series continues, the Doctor Who cast and crew have temporarily bid adieu to sunny Cardiff to set up base in Spain instead.
Filming is this week taking place in Valencia where scenes are being shot for the second episode of Series 10, which has been written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. Take a look at the picture below to see the Twelfth Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi, and his companion Bill, played by Pearl Mackie, getting with the times as they pose for a selfie outside the City of Arts and Science Museum. With filming on the next series of Doctor Who now officially underway, the BBC have released the first picture of Pearl Mackie on set!
The actress was announced as the new companion back in April when fans were given their first look at her in action as Bill. She’ll make her official debut when the show returns to our screens next year but it’s only just the beginning at the moment as she enjoyed her first day on location earlier this week. It looks like she’s having a great time already! Check out a video diary from Pearl herself below.

Filming on Series 10 commenced in Cardiff earlier this week as the TARDIS finally reopened its doors to get the ball rolling on Peter Capaldi’s third string of adventures.
It marked the beginning of a brand new era as Pearl Mackie stepped in front of the cameras to kick start her journey as the Twelfth Doctor’s brand new companion, Bill, to be greeted by a bouquet of flowers from her predecessor, Jenna Coleman, as a special good luck charm. Not that she needs it, of course! But it’s not all about new faces this year, as here’s a blast from the not so distant Christmas past…
It’s just been confirmed that Matt Lucas will be reprising his role as Nardole to accompany our honourable heroes through time and space. Introduced as a guest stint in last year’s Christmas Special, The Husbands of River Song, the actor promised his Twitter followers that his character will become “more textured” as he embarks on the trip of a lifetime.
But what other surprises will Series 10 have in store? There’s already plenty to be excited about, including the return of writers Frank Cottrell-Boyce and Sarah Dollard, but we’ll just have to wait until 2017 to find out for ourselves. Oh, what we would give to be a fly on the wall at Roath Lock Studios right about now… Where is a TARDIS when you need one, eh?!

Matt Lucas will be returning to Doctor Who next year, it has been confirmed.
The actor – who was introduced as Nardole in last year’s Christmas Special, The Husbands of River Song – will be reprising his role as the “bumbling duffel-coated” hero in the first episode of Series 10, which begins filming next week. While the exact details regarding his comeback haven’t been revealed, the character will be taking on a more permanent role in the show as he joins Peter Capaldi in the TARDIS alongside new companion Pearl Mackie.
As expected, the Series 10 premiere is written by outgoing showrunner Steven Moffat, with Lawrence Gough in line to direct. The second episode has been penned by Frank Cottrell-Boyce (In The Forest of the Night), while Sarah Dollard (Face the Raven) and Mike Bartlett (Doctor Foster) will also be contributing scripts. Exciting times ahead!
What do you think of these latest developments? And are you excited for Nardole’s return?

Steven Moffat has revealed some interesting tidbits about the new companion in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, on sale now.
The TARDIS’ incoming co-resident will be played by Pearl Mackie who made her on screen debut in Friend from the Future last month. If you didn’t guess from the short but sweet scene, her character will be “a bit more gobby” than her predecessors, as the showrunner explains: “She is someone who asks the questions that nobody has asked for 53 years, the stuff you’re not supposed to ask…”
Meanwhile, Bill – which is short for Billie, unless Steven “changes his mind again” – will be introduced under “very unusual” circumstances in the first episode of Series 10 next year, which means that, as expected, this year’s Christmas Special will feature a one-off “guest companion” instead. Regarding Bill’s era, Steven affirmed that she’s from present day Earth as he likened her 1980’s vibe as “what young people are wearing these days”.
What do you make of these developments? Let us know in the comments section below…
Please join us as we raise our glasses to wish Pearl Mackie a very happy birthday!
The actress – who will be portraying the Doctor’s brand new companion, Bill, in Series 10 – turns 29 today, and we hope she enjoys her celebrations. She made her on screen debut as the TARDIS’ incoming co-resident in a special scene, Friend from the Future, which was aired during the FA Cup semi-final on BBC One last month.
