Doctor Who has been named as the Best Family Drama at this year’s TV Choice Awards!

The show was nominated in the category alongside Merlin, Wild at Heart and Waterloo Road. As BBC News reports, Karen Gillan was on hand to accept the award on behalf of the cast and crew. She unfortunately lost out to Waterloo Road Denise Welch in the Best Actress category, while Jack O’Connell from Skins beat Matt Smith and John Barrowman to the Best Actor prize.

Children of Earth – which was up for Best Drama Series – lost out to Ashes to Ashes.

The ceremony took place earlier tonight at the Dorchester Hotel in London, and was hosted by Alexander Armstrong – the voice of Mr Smith in The Sarah Jane Adventures!

We’d just like to congratulate all at Doctor Who on their well-deserved success!

Yay! Well done Doctor Who! Shame about the Best Actor/Actress award, but there’s always next year.

You think so? Children of Earth was fantastic and it’s a shame it didn’t win, but Ashes to Ashes is hard to beat in my opinion.

I didn’t know Ashes to Ashes rating weren’t good. Doctor Who’s obviously were still good this year, so I’m pleased about that.

I think @dani meant “Best Family Drama” made up for DW’s not so good ratings. They weren’t as good as they have been in past series. Never mind though. I’m sure series 6 (6A and 6B? 6 and 7?) will be even better next year :)

I think that’s not quite right you know. I’m fairly certain the overall ratings where equivalent to past series. Certainly better than David Tennant’s first series.
