Matt Smith has responded to the recent tabloid speculation regarding Amy Pond’s future in the TARDIS.

As This Is London reports, the actor has suggested that there’s “a lot more mileage” left in the Eleventh Doctor’s current companion, reassuring: “I just think for this particular Doctor, his bond with Amy, there’s a long way to go. So I can’t see [her leaving] any time soon.” He added: “Don’t worry, I won’t let it happen.” Last month Karen Gillan revealed that she’s taking the role “series by series”.

What do you think the future holds for the girl who waited? Let us know below – spoilers!

    It’ll be odd having a married couple aboard the TARDIS. Nice, though. More of the friendship dynamic that Donna was so brilliant for.

    I was rewatching Amy’s Choice last night, and thinking a) the Doctor is so in love with Amy and b) it’s during that episode that he really really realises that she’s not his. Forget pushing her away at the end of the weeping angel two parter, that moment when Rory’s dead and he wants to comfort her, but his hands are just fluttering uselessly because he has no idea what he should be doing… that says everything. And then when he goes on to listen to her declaring her love for Rory and convincing him to give her the keys to the van, and he just says “okay. Okay.”

    Forget Amy’s “I don’t want it” – that “Okay” is heartbreaking.

    Sorry, I should be trying to make this relevant. I am, vaguely. What I’m trying to say is that the relationship is probably going to involve just a leeetle bit of unrequited romance but I don’t think Rory need worry.

    As for events/possible exeunts from the TARDIS, I’d love to see Amy become pregnant for real this time. Not yet, though. I agree with Mr Smith’s sentiment on that one!

    a married couple is going to be weird in the TARDIS, hasn’t happened before. don’t know what will happen, but i’m sure Amy will not get preggy for real life with all the adventures your having how can you.
    I saw this article in the sun about the same topic as above and someone posted an anti-matt smith and karen gillan post. everytime someone does that i want to pull out my hair and wished they were in the room to choke them.
    They said that RTD will be back and david tennant, excluding specials how can a time lord come back and degenerate – its stupid.
    some of the best episodes in the history of who has been in series 5.

    @jak
    I agree Amy couldn’t maintain the TARDIS lifestyle whilst pregnant, but wouldn’t that be a nice reason for someone to leave, for once? Rather than getting trapped in a parallel universe/having their memories wiped/realising that they’re just torturing themselves aboard the TARDIS?

    What? Hello? Is it only me who knows Rory is not Human but a piece of plastic. Weird is very much the word for this relationship. So unless there is so secret experiment going on where plastic and human eggs can join, it ain’t going to happen.
    Also, can we all get over the stupid obsession set in motion by RTD that the Doctor falls in love with all his companions and wants to snog them. The has been no indication that the Doctor loves his companion any more than the 3rd Doctor/ Jo Grant or Sarah Jane / 4th Doctor or even 2nd Doctor / Jamie.
    As for any planned return of either RTD or David Tennant. No way in hell should RTD return EVER!!! As for DT, 2013 is coming up and that’s as good as it’s gets.

    I really want to see Amy and Rory head off into the sunset. Sorry if I sound a bit harsh but many people are saying ‘oh I will miss Karen’s short skirts’ well if thats all they will miss she obv cannot be a great companion! In my opinion she is quite good, but the other companions were brilliant not just good. I just think that two series if enough for these two characters, because they are what spoiled series five for me, because Matt Smith is wonderful! The show needs to keep changing and keep fresh. Look at David Tennant, he had lots of companions in his time, not just one and in my opinion they were all amazing (maybe Martha was the one that stood out as the bad one, but I still really liked her) so I think after series six Karen and Arthur really should step down.

    @Steve
    If you would bother to watch The Big Bang, you would know that Rory is human now because he was never sucked into a crack and the events of The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang hardly existed in the new timeline.

    @Steve
    I must confess I have a shipper’s brain. I look for things where they probably don’t exist. But that’s half the fun! Reading into things about three metres too deep – great skill to learn for literature/media analysis.

    @TE
    Which begs the question: Rory says “how could we forget the Doctor?” Which implies that the Doctor’s existence is being rewritten back into the timeline. So how much of series 5 is now the same as we saw it, and how much un/rewritten?
