Series 5 filming updates galore!
After a few days in Swansea, the production team have now returned home to Cardiff as filming for the eagerly-anticipated fifth series of Doctor Who continues! Hurrah!
Scenes were being shot at the top of the city’s University’s Glamorgan Building yesterday, and, although all the action was taking place up on the rooftops, that didn’t stop eagle-eyed fans (God love ‘em!) managing to pick up a few bits and bobs about what was going on!
And thanks to various members of the GallifreyBase forum who were lucky enough to experience the unfolding surprises first hand, we now know that Matt Smith and Karen Gillan weren’t the only familiar faces present on location yesterday – but for those of you who would rather remain spoiler-free, we’ve hidden the information below. Highlight the white space if you’re feeling rebellious!
The University’s rooftops were dressed to look like what appears to be a World War II-style bunker, which was surrounded by barbed wire and there were even extras dressed as troops to complete the look! But that’s not all – a Dalek was partially spotted over the wall, and from what was seen of it, they’ve gone back to their traditional grey colour scheme for the fifth series, rather than the gold attire seen in previous years. Interesting…
Meanwhile, Scottish actor Bill Paterson, of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Shoebox Zoo and Little Dorrit fame, was spotted filming, dressed in costume as a scientist, and Nicholas Briggs, fresh from his stint in Torchwood: Children of Earth, was also seen arriving, which just about confirms that even though the exterior of the Daleks might be changing, their voices won’t be! Exterminate!
As always, feel free to discuss the filming developments below – but beware the almighty spoilers!
Another WWII story (presumably) and another Dalek story. Eee! I’m not too sure about how much redesigning is going on. The interior of the TARDIS, the regeneration, the companion, all this I can deal with. The exterior, even, is alright to tinker with a bit. But even though I logically know the Daleks have been redesigned a thousand times, it does make me wonder quite how disjointed this transition is going to be.
Of course, I should really have more faith in our wondrous writers and execs, who I’m sure will do a fabulous job smoothing it all over, and I shall be eating my words this time next year, but still… it’s natural to feel a little apprehensive, isn’t it?
I’m not too sure on what we’ve seen: Churchill with the Daleks? Surely, Churchill, like many others, would believe that the Daleks were Nazi spies. Of course, they would destroy both Nazi Germany and the Allies, hence why the Doctor is so keen on convincing Churchill that going with the Daleks is the wrong decision.
