The Eleventh Hour to be 60 minute spectacular!

February 17th, 2010

amy-pond-februaryIf you weren’t excited enough already about the new series, the new Doctor, the new companion and the new TARDIS (etc), we now have confirmation that the first episode of Series 5, entitled The Eleventh Hour, will be an epic 60 minutes in length!

Speculation regarding its extended running time has been doing the rounds for a while now, however BBC News Entertainment Correspondent Lizo Mzimba revealed the news earlier today via his Twitter page:

And this was mentioned by a few fan sites at end of last week. But, yes, Matt’s first ep The Eleventh Hour will be a 60 min special.”

Exciting, isn’t it? Series 5 is expected to launch in April. A new trailer for the series will premiere on BBC One and online this Saturday.

Given that this is the first non-special in at least 2 years, it’s perfectly natural that the production team has decided to give THE ELEVENTH HOUR 60 minutes.

Also in reply to earlier comments, we had a 60 minute intro for DT so why not for MS? Besides, Steven Moffat is writing and his stories have always been proper good stories. Let’s hope he doesn’t fall into the trap that RTD often found himself in.
