Karen Gillan briefly appeared on Radio 1 with Fearne Cotton this morning, where she offered some of the first tantalizing teases as to what fans can expect to see from her character, Amy Pond, in the forthcoming series of Doctor Who!

“She’s a very sassy lady, and she meets the Doctor in a really incredibly interesting way, which determines their relationship for the first part of the series,” she said.

She added: “She’s not completely in awe of the Doctor all the time, there’s none of that, because she doesn’t take his word as gospel. She’s kind of like ‘Ok, if you’re gonna go off and do that, I’m gonna go and do my own thing!’, so she’s independent. She’s really funny. Funny and sassy and strong. Yeah!”

Meanwhile, regarding the recently announced series launch tour of Britain, she beamed: “We’re going to Belfast, Iverness, Sunderland, Salford and Northampton, so it’s really exciting in itself. We get to take the show back to our hometowns, which is really nice.”

And the actress went on to liken her relationship with co-star Matt Smith to that of ‘an annoying older brother’. “But annoying in a brilliant way,” she added, laughing. Stay tuned!

What you’d expect for a companion, then! I can never judge a character until I get their ‘voice’. Not their voice voice. The sense of how they’ll act/think in any given situation. Can’t wait to get to know these two!

It seems really sad that by the time David got to his final series he got the companions to stay with him. Now we go back to them going off doing there own thing lol :P

I don’t think she means *leaving* leaving, at least not this early in the series. She can travel with the Doctor and still be independent, ie not following him around everywhere and always having to be rescued
