Episode one a ‘brilliant fairytale’
The forthcoming issue of SFX Magazine, Issue #194, not only features a fantastic 3D cover to mark the launch of Series 5, but inside there’s also a brand new interview with the man who will be portraying the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith!
And the SFX website has today released a snippet of the interview ahead of the release of the magazine later this week, in which the actor offers a few tantalizing hints as to what we can expect from his first episode!
“I think there’s a magic to it. Steven has written a rather brilliant fairytale, in such a magical way,” he teases. ”The Doctor’s getting to know his new body, which is just brilliant, all the great stuff that Steven’s done with that.”
He adds: ”What’s interesting about this particular series is that it has a thread twining through it. And you learn about that in episode one. And the Doctor’s scoping it out. It’s quite important for the rest of the tale.”
You can read the full interview, as well as interviews with Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) and showrunner Steven Moffat, in SFX Magazine #194, to be published this coming Wednesday!

Thread twining vital for the rest of the fairytale? Another bad wolf, torchwood or vote saxon??
@Lee
Is that a bad thing? I quite like the story arches, so long as they’re done well.
@gallifrey_
Agreed. Bad Wolf was my favourite because it was almost obvious, but not quite.
Interesting that we’ll learn about it in ep1. Is this like the Torchwood reveal in Tooth and Claw? Or something else?
yer… there was a thread in every new series, wasn’t there? rose was series four… wasn’t she?
the threads are cool, as log as it isn’t a flashing sign saying “im a thread! follow me! it will give you clues for the final!” is you know what i mean
@dani
Series 4 had quite a few foreshadowing moments, didn’t it? “She is returning”, the “DoctorDonna”, “I think your song must end soon” (same scene, I know) “it burns in the heart of the Medusa Cascade” “Yeah, that thing about the bees disappearing’s weird…”
Loved the bees disappearing.
Something about “thread twining” seems like there’s a possible moment in The Eleventh Hour which sets the cogs turning; they visit these locations in Series Fnarg because they have something to do with something in Episode One… unless “the rest of the tale” means “until the end of 11/Amy”… Well, I’m stumped. Forest of the Dead, and away!
TSG
oh yer! i forgot about them! how did i do that? il have play more brain training….
