It’s common knowledge that the Doctor would be lost in space without a companion at his side, and there was a special look back over some of his most faithful of friends in last night’s Sidekick Stories on BBC Four!

The programme was narrated by Catherine Tate (Donna Noble) and celebrated the role of assistants in television, and Doctor Who, unsuprisingly, has the highest number of sidekicks in British TV history!

The Doctor Who segment includes interviews with David Tennant (The Tenth Doctor), Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith) and various other TV and radio critics as they look back over the show’s 46 year history and examine the impact its companions have had on the series, as well as on the Doctor as a character.

If you missed it, you can watch it again for the next 6 days via the BBC iPlayer service, here.
