Russell T Davies has promised that long-term Torchwood fans will still feel comfortable watching the new series despite its big changes in cast and setting.

The former Doctor Who showrunner and creator of the spin-off told SFX that the new 10-part story will feel consistent with the team’s previous adventures. “For faithful viewers you’ll see the same people in the same world, following on,” he said. “It also starts from scratch, but I restarted Doctor Who in 2005, so I know what I’m doing.”

He reassured: “It’s a new starting point and yet, as a faithful viewer you do get that awful feeling when something reboots or revamps that you’re not comfortable anymore, and there’s none of that. It’s still Gwen, it’s still Jack, and hopefully more. You’ll feel very comfortable with it. And there’s great new American characters coming into it.”

Filming for the series begins in the UK and the US in January. Thanks to JC for the tip!

    @Steve
    Yeah, yeah, we know. If you don’t like RTD then don’t watch Torchwood. And if you aren’t going to watch Torchwood then you don’t have to post sarcastic comments about how lame it’s going to be. Problem solved.

    @pirko
    I think pirko’s got a huge point. RTD did bring Doctor Who back and made it cool again. It’s not some sci-fi cult anymore, it’s accessible, mainstream telly. Whatever your opinion on the actual writing of the thing, a huge factor in DW’s revival was RTD. That’s not to say I’m digging at you, @Steve, because I know you weren’t trying to deny that.

    Anyway, I’m feeling a bit nervous about Torchwood’s regeneration myself, as I’ve said in earlier posts. I’ll still be watching, and I hope to be convinced, but instinctively, it feels a bit… well, alien. Of course, so did an adult Doctor Who spin-off, back in the day, so we’ll see.

    @pirko So did Phillip Hinchcliffe with better results!!
    As for your, yet another childish comment, ” Living in Steven Moffat’s backside and licking his boots” He aint my type! I must admit, I find it extremely funny that any comment I place is immediately criticised by yourself and usually has some childish rebuke at my expense. Really fella, I couldn’t care less about RMeD. And the more you jump down my throat, the more easy it is to wind you up.

    CAN I POINT OUT THAT THIS IS A FORUM WHERE EVERYBODY IS ALLOWED THERE OPINIONS. IF YOU DON”T LIKE MINE, IGNORE THEM.

    As for Torchwood, I am absolutely sure that RMeD will only allow his “mates” to write for the series. One of my main bug bear with RMeD is there is a lot of talented writers out there who were rejected by RMeD in favour of his “mates” which ended up with drivel like the Dalek In Manhattan. Thats one thing I admire Steven Moffatt for, his ability to be open minded and allow others, like Richard Curtis to write for DW. Lets hope RMeD proves me wrong and open up the floor to other writers.

    @ Steve.

    “CAN I JUST POINT OUT THAT THIS IS A FORUM WHERE EVERYBODY IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINIONS. IF YOU DON’T LIKE MINE, IGNORE THEM”

    That’s a bit pot calling kettle black when u constantly attack and insult people if they dare to disagree with you or they just don’t like something about the new series. And you know it’s true…you’ve even recevied a warning about it :)

    I have never had a warning about anything on this site. And if you bother to review all your posts, you are always the one to “attack first! Something the site is aware of. Now I would suggest we both move on or we will both end up being thrown off the site.

    and if you look at one of the posts from a while back u will see an admin warning u about your abuse so dont get defensive with me.

    but yes we will have to agree to disagree over this. I’ll stop when you stop as well. agreed?
