Matt Smith has revealed that he currently has no plans to step down from his role as the Eleventh Doctor!

As Unreality TV reports, the actor has recently told The Daily Telegraph that he’s taking his commitment with the series a year at a time.

“I’m going back this year,” he said. “I’ll get another one out the way, and see what everyone thinks. I love doing it. I don’t want to give it up anytime soon, put it that way.”

Speculation about Matt’s future in the role has inevitably been ongoing for months.
Previously it has been claimed that he’ll appear until the 50th anniversary in 2013.

Matt will be back on our screens later tonight in 2 Doctor Who mini-eps airing as part of BBC One’s Red Nose Day telethon from 7pm. Tomorrow he’ll be seen as Christopher Isherwood in the one-off drama Christopher and his Kind (BBC Two, 9:30pm).

I hope Matt stays longer than the 50th anniversary. I think that Matt is the best thing to happen to doctor who ever in it’s long long history

I also hope Matt stays for a few more years. And I wish people would quit asking when he’s leaving. Just let him get on with being a brilliant Doctor.

@TC. David Tennant remarked on that – how one of the first questions he heard after being cast was “when are you leaving?” It’s a really weird mindset people (and the media) got into after Eccleston left so abruptly. Just enjoy the guy while he’s in the role, and rest assured we’ll probably enjoy the next guy who comes along for the Twelfth Doctor, but let’s cross that bridge when we come to it. Ditto for when Karen and Arthur move on, whether that’s this season or next year.

He should leave on the 50th anniversary special, if there is one.

Great news I do hope he stays

it looks like he’ll will be the doctor for three years

like the 2nd and 5th doctors.

I would like a trailer for series 6 though

    it’s driving me crackers!

I heard rumours it may be on the 19th of March.

    Sorry me again.

If i was playing the Dr that would be what i’d do play the role for three years then take it from there.

And i wish people including the press would stop asking matt when he is leaving.

I’m glad we’ve got him for a good while – I’m really enjoying his tenure as the Doctor. It would be interesting to see him get new companions, imo. Not that I want Amy or Rory to leave, but it would be an interesting dynamic, particularly since Amy and Eleven have always been so tied together.
