New live show, The Crash of the Elysium, revealed
The BBC have today released details of a new Doctor Who show, ‘The Crash of the Elysium’, which will be staged as part of the Manchester International Festival!
The show opens in Salford on 30th June and will give fans aged 6-12 the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in an “unforgettable” adventure. It has been created by acclaimed company Punchdrunk and will be a unique and interactive experience as the audience become part of the action and are “led through an astonishing range of sets” as they go.
The show is about a sunken ship called the Elysium and the story has been developed by writer Tom MacRae and Punchdrunk’s artistic director, Felix Barrett, from an original idea from Steven Moffat. Barrett said: “Punchdrunk is delighted to be working with the BBC again, this time for an exciting audience and one that’s dear to our hearts. With ‘The Crash of the Elysium’, there’s a fantastic opportunity for Punchdrunk to take all of that imaginative energy back to the source, in a thrilling show made especially for kids.”
“Punchdrunk and the Doctor Who team are world leaders in their fields,” Alex Poots of Manchester International Festival commented. “We’re delighted to have brought these two brilliant architects of the imagination together to create what we believe is going to be one of the most talked about children’s shows this year.”
In addition, the short video below has been released to promote the play. It originally appeared as a hidden video on the official BBC site, so it looks like this is what all the secret messages were referring too! ‘The Crash of the Elysium’ will run until 17th July.
Tickets are now on sale, however the show is for 6-12 year olds so anyone outside the age range will not be admitted. Adults can accompany children in Family Performances.
Argh! When will they acknowledge the older fans, for Pete’s sake?
@Richie McGriffin
i no they dont seem to do n e thing for the older fans 1 thing ever now and again is all i ask lol
Im 16!!!!
When will there something that i can go to????
Cough(AGEISM!)Cough
@Matt (not Smith)
Sorry, but how is it ageism? This play is aimed at kids, therefore it’s been written for kids. If they promoted it as being for everyone, older fans would only go then slate it afterwards for not being mature or deep enough.
@Peter
Problem is you cant go if your over twelve…
@The silence
What? That’s my point. People are complaining that it’s restricted, but if it wasn’t and adults went, they’d only complain it was too ‘childish’. Some fans just can’t be pleased. Surely the fact we get the series is enough!?
wish i was 12. do you think i could steal a child and say im accompanying him. i don’t care if he doesn,t like dr who.
i AM 12 do u think i can get in?
I took a group of 25 children to a preview of this fantastic interactive experience, I had to be dragged kicking and screaming to take part … only in a supervisory role, you understand! I had as much fun as the children.. dare I say more?? YES. The children become fully immersed in trying to save ‘The Doctor’ and Tardis from…no I won’t spoil it for you big kids who may, like me use children as an excuse to help ‘The Doctor’… I even have a letter from him thanking me from(with the help of my 25 assistants) for saving his life…. :)
