It’s been a week of triumph for Doctor Who, with both of its stars reigning supreme at the National Television Awards on Wednesday night!

Matt Smith’s portrayal of the Doctor was named as the Best Drama Peformance (Male), with the actor describing it as “a marvellous honour” to win as he went up and accepted his award. He also thanked the crew and fans for their ongoing support. Meanwhile, Karen’s role as Amy earned her the title of Best Drama Peformance (Female) too!

“This just means so much to me, and I am terrified right now,” she said in her speech.

Unfortunately, though, Doctor Who lost out to Downton Abbey for Most Popular Drama…

To be fair, DA did get higher ratings, which does sort of make it more popular… Shame we didn’t get a triple win, but you know, that’s life. And a big well done to Matt and Karen!

Strange how ever since the show came back Doctor Who always won Best Drama, always, no matter who it was against but ever since Moffat took over, its lost both times…

My personal vote for best drama was definately Downtown Abby! Not saying that Karen and Matt didn’t deserve their awards for their performances, but as a whole Doctor Who last season was a major disappoinment.

I didn’t vote for Doctor Who either. I do feel a sense of loyalty from the RTD days, but I would have felt wrong if Doctor Who had won, despite how inconsequential my vote probably would have been, because I didn’t feel it deserved to win at the moment.

I didn’t vote for Matt either and that may have been a mistake. Despite what I think about Doctor Who at the moment, the 11th Doctor himself isn’t a bad character, so in a sense, I’m glad Matt Smith won his award.

I did vote for Karen, not only for being Amy as perhaps it should have been, but also just because I liked her on Doctor Who Confidential too.

As I say, I don’t feel bad about not voting for Doctor Who this year. I personally didn’t feel they deserved an award and so I didn’t vote for them, that’s the way it works. Had it won without my vote, that would have been fair enough and I would have congratulated them nonetheless.

I kind of hope that Steven Moffat realises the game has to be stepped up, and I’m sure it will with the 50th Anniversary coming up during or after Series 7, but I think instead, he’ll believe they were always gonna lose to Downton Abbey no matter how great he’d done.

Still, I am glad Matt and Karen won awards.
