A recent tweet from Steven Moffat’s sparked rumours that Sophia Myles will be returning to Doctor Who as Madame de Pompadour.
The showrunner urged fans to follow the actress on Twitter, adding: “Spin that fireplace. NOW. I’ll explain later. Or not.”
Myles appeared as Reinette back in 2006, in Series 2’s The Girl in the Fireplace. According to the Daily Star, she is tipped to be the Doctor’s next companion. Thoughts?

Really hope she does come back, because it was a really good episode (The Girl In The Fireplace) and I was upset that Reinette/Madame de Pompadour never returned. She is one of the most (in my opinion) influential women in French society. I followed her on twitter, as Steven encouraged us too. It may not be the same, without David, since they were in a relationship, but I would love to see her reaction with the new doctor, Matt Smith.
How would that work? Last we saw was her funeral procession leaving for Paris.
no I really don’t think it will be madame de pompadour for a few reasons. First of all, as Vanessa said, we saw her funeral procession. obviously that could be overcome by the doctor but, would the doctor have the heart to travel with someone every day, knowing how they die, and wouldn’t she have mentioned it in her letter. Also, her life was a fixed point in time, it was made so in series 2 episode 4,the girl in the fireplace, when the clockwork robots were keeping her there until she was ready. obviously after the doctor defeated them they could have returned, but the King never mentioned her dissapearence. finally, I really don’t think Moffat would use a previously seen character. I think he will use someone new, or atleast someone who is very close to the Doctor
