It has been revealed that Matt Smith has been appointed as patron of this year’s Royal Court Young Writers Festival.

The Stage reports that the actor is supporting the festival – which will take place at the theatre from 23rd February until 14th April – because the Royal Court is where he took part in his first professional stage role, in a production of Fresh Kills in 2004. Former Doctor Who actress Catherine Tate has also been a patron of the festival, which showcases the best plays starring the most exciting young talent.
