Both David Tennant and Arthur Darvill will be in a new ITV1 drama, it has been announced.

The 8-part series, Broadchurch, is written by Chris Chibnall, who Doctor Who fans will recognise for his contributions to the series, such as The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood, as well as to Torchwood, including Cyberwoman and Adrift.

The drama focuses on the death of a young boy in a seaside town, the residents of which come under scrutiny.

The Tenth Doctor star leads the cast as Alec Hardy, an out-of-town Detective Inspector, while the Rory actor will play the part of the town’s priest. Olivia Colman, seen in The Eleventh Hour and acclaimed for her recent performance in Tyrannosaur, also stars.

It’ll be filmed in Bristol, helmed by Doctor Who and Torchwood director James Strong.
