Natalie Gumede has revealed that filming this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special “was a completely new realm” due to its heavy use of CGI.

The actress will guest star in the festive episode, the first trailer for which was aired after Death in Heaven, and told Radio Times that the role presented new challenges for her as an actress. “I just kind of sat at the sidelines in awe of all the special effects,” she said. “Normally you’re on a set and you’re on a street or in a kitchen in a house, but this time we were on a spaceship!”

She continued: It was a complete eye-opener and it’s made me a fan of Doctor Who. I have a new found respect for actors acting opposite CGI in rubber costumes and masks or against nothing, just a green screen. It’s s really challenging to make it real and human.”
