Jenna says Series 8 exit “would’ve felt wrong”
Jenna Coleman has revealed that it “would’ve felt wrong” to leave Doctor Who at the end of the last series.
Although her on screen alter ego, Clara Oswald, parted ways with the Doctor at the end of Series 8’s finale, Death in Heaven, she returned in Last Christmas before stepping back aboard the TARDIS full time for Series 9. The actress told io9 that the temptation to work with Peter Capaldi again was too strong. “Our working relationship is so exciting and it really pushes me,” she said. “Series 8 was about discovering our new dynamic and this year we can take it even further.”
While Steven Moffat has teased that a “complicated” journey awaits the impossible girl in Series 9, which begins on 19th September, Jenna insists that it’s all about the adventure. She explained: “Her perspective has changed after losing Danny. She’s still grieving for him but she’s no longer living the double life between Earth and space. She throws herself head first into the TARDIS to run as fast as she can towards danger. It all gets pretty scary, too.”
