An actress who has previously been associated with Doctor Who has emerged as the bookies’ new favourite to take over the reigns from Jenna Coleman as the Time Lord’s coveted companion, according to reports.

Fresh Meat and Glue star Faye Marsay – who portrayed Shona McCullough in the 2014 festive special, Last Christmas – currently has odds of 6/1 to be unveiled as Peter Capaldi’s next co-star when the franchise’s current leading lady, Clara Oswald, departs during the latest series. Faye herself has previously admitted that she’d return “in a heartbeat”.

While it hasn’t been revealed exactly when Clara will part ways with the Doctor for the last time, her exit will mean that there will be a vacancy in the TARDIS for the first time since 2012. However, the immediate future of the show itself currently remains up in the air with recent rumours suggesting that the BBC will put it on hiatus next year to accommodate a cast overhaul, despite the fact Steven Moffat has allegedly signed up to helm Series 10.

Speculation surrounding the incoming companion looks set to continue, however, with Mark Gatiss recently discussing the possibility of a male sidekick. What do you think? Would Faye Marsay be the right choice or is there someone else who you think would better fit the bill?

honestly, the ‘hot female companion’ is getting a bit tiresome now.
How about a return to multiple companions, or a rebellious teenager?

Her character was the very least likable of that episode, though I know I’m in the minority. I’d go as far as to say there was nothing likable about her.

If she was to become a Companion, it would drive me further away from the franchise. I want to be a fan of Doctor Who. I’ve seen it at its best, but the decisions in the last couple of years … It really isn’t being made easy for me.

How about a male companion? Or an alien companion. How about a companion? Steven Moffatt is over obsessed with leaving the companion on earth and having a quick trip! He doesn’t understand Who at all!
