When an Underwater Base comes under attack, the Doctor and Clara must save the frightened crew and defeat an impossible threat. But what is behind these terrifying events? And can they really be haunted by ghosts?
The Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald ventured Under the Lake tonight in the first chapter of Toby Whithouse’s terrifying two-parter… with “terrifying” being the operative word there!
Last week it was the climactic conclusion of Daleks and Davros and Missy (oh my!) but this time the drama took us deep into the depths of the unknown as our heroes sought to save an underwater base being haunted by terrifying ghosts. It had all the makings of a classic Doctor Who adventure which has made all of the “scariest episodes ever” (we’re looking at you, The Waters of Mars!) that have come before look like a mere walk in the park. But did Toby’s supernaturally subversive tale send you cowering behind your TARDIS cushion?
It certainly wasn’t for the fainthearted but did Under the Lake prove that it’s always better down where it’s wetter, or did it ultimately sink under the pressure? This season just gets better and better. That was the best episode so far.
This is getting good! I;m so excited to see what happens next!
Great episode. Nice and Creepy with plenty of good characters, atmosphere, creepy Villains, an intriguing plot, Suspenseful moments, The Doctor being a madman obsessed with death and danger more than ever and an absolute killer cliff-hanger, which along with an intense trailer makes me begging for more!
I don’t have much to say about this episode, which is why I’ve waited until now to make my comments.
Yes, it was quick paced and challenged you to keep up. Yes, it bamboozled you with questions and observations, challenging you to keep up without getting confused and yes, the social cards to instruct the Doctor what to say were amusing and reminiscent of something Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory would need, but was I impressed by the episode?
Not really. I wouldn’t say I was bored or that it was underwhelming, it was just simply OK like plain pasta or rice is simply ok, but it’s hardly going to be the most exciting meal you’re ever going to have. The episode was relatively entertaining, but I was never excited or particularly enthusiastic about anything.
So this isn’t going to my usual long post containing my thoughts on different parts of the episode, because honestly I didn’t care enough to find much of note.
Having said that, next week is the second part of the story, so I’ll see if that helps matters. If not, I hope Episode 5 will be better.
Agreed- dull as dishwater
