Peter says Doctor is “put through the mill”
Peter Capaldi has teased that forthcoming events in Series 9 will send the Twelfth Doctor down a dark path as the show heads into 2016.
The actor – whose second string of adventures at the helm of the TARDIS is currently airing on Saturday nights on BBC One – admitted that, while it’s been refreshing to play the more “cheerful” side of his incarnation, he thinks he will return to his darker personna for Series 10 as a direct result of Clara Oswald’s imminent departure, which we’ve been told will both “shock and terrify”.
“As the series develops, more terrible things happen,” he said. “By the end, he’s going, ‘Oh man, I was right, I should’ve remained cynical and closed off and suspicious’. You’ve seen this Doctor go through different colours and places, so where he goes next, I don’t know.”
It has recently been revealed by showrunner Steven Moffat that Series 10 will include the now traditional 12 episodes plus a Christmas Special, and that Peter “is going nowhere”.
