Patrick Stewart responds to Doctor Who rumours

January 31st, 2010

patrick-stewartPatrick Stewart has today responded to the long-standing rumours that he is/was in talks to star in an episode of Doctor Who.

Speaking at OzTrek2 – an Australian Star Trek convention - the actor, who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the series, revealed that David Tennant had suggested he appear during their time working together in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Hamlet in 2008.

But he feels that a guest spot is unlikely now that the Tenth Doctor is no more, and told TrekMovie.com that ‘that ship has sailed’.

Back in 2008, there was speculation, fuiled by various tabloids, that Stewart would appear in the 2009 Specials as the Meddling Monk, a Time Lord, in a two-parter featuring the Daleks.

I would love to see Patrick Stewart appear in Doctor Who. Trouble is, he is to well known as both Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Professor X. Certainly to strong an actor for the Meddling Monk role. (More a Bill Bailey Character) Hopefully Steven Moffat will be able to cast him in a story, maybe as a voice-over as he has such a great voice. Mind you, I am still waiting for Dame Judi Dench and Joanna Lumley to appear yet.

I think he could revolutionise becoming the doctor. Could revert to the first doctor but embody any facets of the ones fallowing. Would be amazing. High colors still trench jacket old fashioned bow tie. And a tastefully used cane…. Perfection
