Christopher Eccleston appeared on Graham Norton’s Radio 2 show today, and during the interview he looked back on his time as the Ninth Doctor and discussed his decision to step down after just one series.

“I’m very proud of what we did over those 13 episodes,” he said. “My intention was to make the show a success so that the next series could follow, so I’d done what I wanted to do.” When asked if he’d ever return, he said: “No, never bathe in the same river twice.”

Christopher has previously admitted that he “didn’t enjoy” the environment on set.

I’m glad Christopher looks back on his time as The Doctor with pride.

He gave the series so much credibility and gravitas on its return. His performance through those 13 episodes was magnificent.
