Our first snippet of Series 7 news has come to light today, through an interesting update on the CV of John Fay…

According to the page, the writer, who penned Day Two and Day Four of Children of Earth, is “currently writing an episode of Doctor Who”, and, since Series 6 has completed filming, we can assume that it’s referring to a script for next year’s series. Fay has also contributed to Coronation Street and Primeval, and has written the 9th episode of the new Torchwood Miracle Day series.

As always, take the news with a pinch of salt until there’s confirmation from the BBC.

Update: The Doctor Who credit has now been taken off his CV.

    As noted, though, at least it does mean there’s going to be a Series 7. The way the BBC does things, you can never be 100% sure. And also Fay is connected with some of the darkest hours of the entire Doctor Who franchise – COE, no less! – so that can also be seen as a hint that the darkness of Series 6 is likely to continue. Unless he does a Corrie crossover…

    @Alex
    Can you imagine the torrent of abuse and opprobrium if the BBC were to can Who just shy of it’s 50th birthday?

    Sam Hadges has just confirmed that there will be a series 7 on Twitter, with Matt Smith…
    “#DoctorWho is returning. Fourteen new episodes have been commissioned with Matt Smith as The Doctor #bbc1″ So, yeah, definitely series 7 !

    I did hear something today which ties in with this talk of the series being “axed” which I don’t think would happen, as dr who is still BBC One’s secret saturday weapon, but there is a rumour that it will only be for 8 episodes, not 13, hence the reason for the split series this year…which I have to say I am not enjoying so far.

    Only just found this out but there seems to be a possibility (due to how much he keeps denying it) that Terry Pratchett could write an episode of something for/with Steven Moffat: Terry’s Twitter page.
