Karen confirms that she WILL be coming back!
Karen Gillan has confirmed that’s there’s no end in sight for Amy Pond and that she WILL be back beyond Series 6!
Earlier today at Comic Con the actress was asked by Zap2it what the future holds for her character, to which she replied: “I am going to come back, yes”. Last month fourteen new episodes, including this year’s Christmas special, starring Matt Smith were confirmed, but Amy’s future was in doubt. Her announcement today serves as reassurance for her fans that, for the time being, Amy Pond is safe! Hurrah!
What Karen confirm the news below! Are you happy she’ll be returning for new episodes?
Karen will make her theatre debut in Inadmissible Evidence in London this autumn.
This is dreadful news. This woman could not act her way out of a wet paper bag! I am disgusted. Companions need to move on and this one really has to go.
I liked Amy in the beginning, but in series 6 she got worse (that’s the writing, though, not the actress’ fault), but… Companions change. That’s the point. Amy shouldn’t stay with the Doctor forever ==’ But Moffat loves his characters, doesn’t he?
4 words:
YAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Karen :)
Cant say Im overjoyed… the woman is always pulling the same 2 faces within a scene…
To be honest, I think that Steven’s only keeping Amy on because of the story arc(s) that seem unlikely to be concluded in this year’s finale.
Well, I am seriously happy. I love Amy and Rory (hopefully this means he’s gonna be back too).
This makes her the longest NewWho companion, right?
Woooo!
This is absolutely fantastic news but one thing I can’t understand is this-how no-one seems to like Karen and her acting skills. She is a fantastic actress and has a big future ahead of her and I’m just delighted she is in series 7. I think Karen plays Amy amazingly well. Her best episode was Vincent and the Doctor. Just saw a whole different side to Amy sort of a more grown up Amy.
I don’t really have any strong opinions about Amy coming back. Two things did come together when I thought about it though, and it’s connected with what PRB said, but it’s important to stress that although I’m a 10th Doctor fan, this isn’t anything to do with that, just a thought that occurred.
Matt Smith said he wants to stay on longer, possibly becoming the longest serving Doctor of the Revived Series and “becoming one of the fan’s favourite Doctors”. The 10th Doctor was voted the fan’s favourite Doctor a number of times and is currently the longest serving of the Revived Series.
Rose Tyler lasted two series and a few episodes as the Doctor’s companion, whilst Amy Pond is now looking to beat that.
Perhaps it’s only me, and again, I stress that it’s not because I was a 10th Doctor fan, but it does almost seem like there is a kind of competition going on there, a determination for Matt to beat David and Karen to beat Billie by the time the 11th Doctor regenerates.
Aside from that, I didn’t like that no one responded to the Daily Mail story on Karen, so although my first instinct is not to believe it, there’s that nagging doubt there because no one has denied it.
As for Steven Moffat’s arcs, if he keeps Season 5 and Season 6 Parts 1 and 2 going into Season 7, I don’t really know what to say. I don’t know how you can drag one story out for three seasons and the thought of it going on beyond Season 6 is making me feel bored as I type, in all honesty.
We’ll see though. If Amy is going to stay, I hope Moffat continues to mature her behaviour.
It occured to me now this probablty will not happen I was thinking though she said shed come back but will it be like how martha came back in series 4
Yay now Arthur needs to confirm that he will also be returning and I’ll be happy!
This doesnt mean series seven though does it? She could mean shes going to return in the future in another series? Im not sure. I kind of want her to leave, I love seeing new companions with the Doctor and to be honest I’ve never particulary warmed to Amy but hey ho :L
@Katie
so that has been confirmed that Karen is returning for series 7 =]
Good news for me. I don’t get why people have to leave so quickly on this show. I think that, for once, some stability is good.
I don’t think there’s a competition between Matt Smith/Karen Gillan and David Tennant/Billie Piper. Obviously, Smith and Gillan are having the time of their life. Like it or not, but, even with the worst episodes, Steven Moffat and his writers keep challenging them (A Good Man Goes To War, if not perfect, is a good example of that).
I don’t agree with those who think Karen Gillan can’t act, while I respect this opinion, I think she was good in Series 5 and excellent so far in Series 6, so I’m relieved she’ll stay a little longer (even if it’s not for a full series).
But the Series 7 return I’m really looking forward to is Alex Kingston’s. Along with Donna Noble and Captain Jack, I think she’s the best character ever created since the series came back in 2005. The best character and one of the most well impersonated. Alex Kingston has to stay with the show, even on a recurring basis.
