Steven says he’s “thrilled” with “wonderful” Jenna
Steven Moffat had a chat with Richard Bacon on BBC Radio 5 yesterday, during which he revealed that he is “thrilled” with Jenna-Louise Coleman as the new companion.
The actress was announced in the iconic role in March, and started filming last week. According to the showrunner, so far, it is so very good! “It’s so exciting,” he revealed. “Jenna is wonderful and spiky and salty and clever. As Doctor Who always does, it’s becoming a different show. I’m thrilled with her and I think everyone else will be too.”
He went on to explain why bringing in new companions to the TARDIS is so important to the series’ longevity. He admitted: “It makes you look at the Doctor differently, and it just makes the whole show feel different. It’s like it is a new beginning, back to chapter one. There’s someone new getting to know the Doctor. This time it is Jenna’s character. There are many ways it will be different to usual, but I’m not telling you what they are!”
Jenna will make her debut as the Doctor’s new companion in the next Christmas Special.
Salty? That’s… I have never heard ’salty’ applied like that. I like it. I think I’m going to start describing people as salty now.
As much as I like Amy and Rory, I’m very eager to get to the new companion! I suppose in the same way I loved Tennant, but as soon as Smith was announced, i wanted to get past the specials and on with the new guy. New is exciting! It’s one of the best things about the show; it’s always moving on, changing, and adding new people to love.
I bet she’s doctors daughter :)
I’m confused: is salty supposed to be a compliment or not…?
Salty is an interesting description, usually with negative connotations
He wasn’t using it as a negative; why would he insult someone he’s just cast as the co-lead in the show he runs?!
It sounds like he’s describing her character more than her as a person. Although I love the word salty. haha
That was what I was assuming too, that he was talking about the character rather than the actress, calm down, I’m not attacking the 11th Doctor era again.
@chune
Jenna is her name, nothing to do with the character.
Salty is a very interesting way to describe a person, but I agree that he was probably describing her character.
I know IMDB can be changed by anyone but her character is listed as Susan Tyler. Probably some internet troll
