Classic Series actress, Caroline John, passes away
Classic Series actress Caroline John has passed away at the age of 71, it has been confirmed.
She appeared in Doctor Who in 1970 as Liz Shaw, introduced as a scientist working for UNIT, who went on to join Third Doctor Jon Pertwee on his Earth-bound travels.
Steven Moffat’s described her as “a brilliant actress”. “She was not just a sidekick, but a scientist in her own right,” he said. “A match for the universe’s number one know-all.”
David Richardson, who worked with Caroline on several Big Finish audio productions, commented: “She was a kind soul and a joy to be around, and she’ll be greatly missed.”
Our thoughts and condolences are with Caroline’s family and friends at this difficult time.
I only saw her in the 5 Doctors so can’t really comment on her character and as an actress but R.I.P. You will be missed!
Very sad news.
So sad to see yet another classic 70s companion leave us.
Liz Shaw is a great character and it’s a shame she only appeared in 4 stories, but nonetheless she redefined what a Doctor Who companion is.
My thoughts are with her family. RIP Caroline.
R.I.P Caroline
So sorry to lose another great companion!
i cant beleive we have lost another great doctor who actor/actoress this is so sad they seem to be leaving us to much many and too fast RIP caroline
‘Spearhead From Space’, her first story, is one of my favourites. New Doc, new companion, introduction of The Auton’s.
It is really sad news. Her performance in Doctor Who was brilliantly done. A strong minded character who took on the Doctor very well.
You will be sorely missed Caroline.
