Steven Moffat has revealed that the Series 7 finale will have long-lasting effects on the mythology of the show.

The current series will reach its conclusion in The Name of the Doctor which will lead into November’s “momentous” 50th anniversary adventure. First, the climactic finale looks set to uncover the Doctor’s “greatest secret”, and Steven has a message for the fans: “We are not pretending, we are not kidding. This is actually going to happen. It’s full of huge surprises and questions that have never been answered.”

He added that one particular revelation “will change the course of Who forever”. “We will find out what makes his new companion so impossible, plus there is a surprise that no one has got right so far,” he told the BBC. “It involves our hero in a conflict that is very personal. Usually he saves people, but this time he is the one who needs to be saved…”
