Domhnall Gleeson has affirmed that there is no truth behind rumours that he is in talks to become the Twelfth Doctor.

The actor – who has starred in Harry Potter and Black Mirror – is one of the several names to have been put forward for the coveted role, but he has personally denied the claims in a recent interview with RTÉ Ten.

“A lovely thought but it’s not true,” he said. “There’s nothing to it. It’s a great series. Matt Smith’s a fantastic actor.”

He added: “My agent showed me a website then was laughing that people were saying I was being talked about. I thought ‘That’s lovely. My own agent is laughing at the idea!’.”

Earlier this month it was confirmed Matt Smith will be leaving in the Christmas Special.
