Over the weekend that dreaded but inevitable news came to light as the BBC revealed Matt Smith will be leaving Doctor Who in this year’s Christmas Special (boo!).

As soon as the announcement hit the web (and no doubt for a while before it) speculation as to who will become the new incarnation of the iconic Time Lord was rife with every name under the sun being added to the mix. While we don’t know when we’ll find out for sure, it’s still fun to speculate. So who should be chosen as the Twelfth Doctor?

As the search for our new hero begins, Steven Moffat’s teased: “Somewhere out there right now – all unknowing, just going about their business – is someone who is about to become the Doctor. A life is going to change as Doctor Who will be born all over again.”

Is there an actor out there you think would be perfect in the TARDIS? Maybe you call for a change to the tradition and think a female should take the coveted role? Let us know…

I’m surprised hes not been mentioned but what about Martin Freeman? Or Colin Morgan as he could grow into the role just like Matt. One of them for me but will be interesting.

Exellent Question. Here are my top four favourites to be the Next Doctor!
    1) Benedict Cumberbatch. (Shelock. It’ll be brilliant if he could get the role)
    2) James McAvoy (Proffesor X)
    3)Ian McKellen. (Gandalf)
4)Mark Mcgann (Reconise the Surname anyone?)

I think someone like Richard Coyle would be an amazing Doctor. He was in Going Postal years ago and he was really quirky and I think he’d be a great version of the doctor.

Andrew Scott. He is a brilliant actor, intelligent person, can act very seriously and at the same time perform as a hilarious Doctor like they all have for this series.

It amazes me that fans have ideas for who the 12th Doctor could be. When I think about it, I draw a complete blank.

Right now, all I know is actors I REALLY don’t want to see become the 12th Doctor.

I’m serious when I say that this decision, based on Moffat’s performance since 2010, is make or break for me. If they make the wrong choice, I may be forced to end being a fan of Doctor Who.

It happened with Star Trek, it could easily happen with Doctor Who.

Paul Bradford from Ghost Hunters International has been expressing a HUGH interest in playing the part of the Doctor…

I agree with Cumberbatch. I think he could be amazing in the part. But I don’t think it will happen. I would like them to break the age tendency (what’s next? a teenager?) and cast a more mature doctor. And with that in mind I think the superb choice would be Liam Neeson.

They’ve been setting something up for a while now, in my opinion. Are we ready for it?

There’s been mention since Eccleston that a Time Lord’s regeneration is more random than we’ve seen. There’s that woman that gave Clara the TARDIS phone number.

Is the world ready for a female Doctor?

I really want it to be Emma Watson, because
    1) she’s a great actor, and
    2) it’d be an absolutely hilarious regeneration!!!
But seriously it would be a hugely awesome thing!
