The actress – who was introduced as Missy, the first female incarnation of the Master, in last year’s Series 8 finale – is 49 today and we hope she enjoys her celebrations.

She’ll be back on our screens with an almighty vengeance this autumn in the two-part Series 9 premiere, The Magician’s Apprentice and The Witch’s Familiar, which will reportedly be the show’s “darkest plot ever”.
