The director of Series 8’s finale has responded to complaints regarding its US cinema screenings.

It’s been confirmed that Dark Water and Death in Heaven will be shown on the big screen in 3D in over 700 theaters across America as part of a special one-off event to coincide with the Series 9 premiere in September. However, the BBC received inevitable criticism when they later affirmed that they won’t be hosting similar screenings in the UK. “I saw a lot of disappointed comments,” Rachel Talaley has posted on Tumblr. “So I asked this question in the office today.”

She elaborated: “I was told that the cinemas are the problem. The BBC would love to show it but the few screens that have Dolby Atmos did not ask for it. Fan requests to UGC and/or IMAX might have an effect, but the US has enjoyed growing success with event cinema.”
