Series 9: Part 1 – what did you think?
The Twelfth Doctor encountered The Woman Who Lived last night which means that we’re now officially halfway through his second string of universal escapades.
It all kicked off in September in The Magician’s Apprentice and The Witch’s Familiar, hailed as the show’s “darkest plot ever”, which marked the grand return of not one but three iconic villains as Missy, Davros and the Daleks shared the screen to give the Doctor a cataclysmic blast from the past. Watch out, Davros, because Missy will scratch your eyes out! Oh, but first she’s going to need eight snipers.
Next up, our heroes journeyed Under the Lake for one of their most terrifying adventures to date and the truth behind the impossible threat was uncovered Before the Flood when the fearsome warlord, Fisher King, set in motion a twisted plan to ensure his own survival.
Last but certainly not least, one of the most anticipated stories of the year – The Girl Who Died – introduced us to the seemingly ordinary Viking girl Ashildr, as played by Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, whose story has seemingly only just begun. She’s watching…
So, there we have it! Six weeks into Series 9 and it’s safe to say that it’s been non stop drama since day one. There’s still lots to look forward to, of course, including the return of the Zygons next week and Clara’s unfortunate but inevitable departure, but for now let us reflect on Series 9: Part 1 and all of the shocks, surprises and sonic sunglasses that have come with it. Has it been a case of time flying because you’re having fun, or are you glad to be halfway out of the dark? Let us know by voting in the poll and commenting below…

I LOVE DOCTOR WHO IN EVERY REGENERATION!
The Doctor… 12th is rocking it (quite literally!)
Clara… The best development of a companion since… Erm? Possibly Donna Noble.
The Mistress/Master… Wasn’t convinced last series, now, I want to see more of her! The wicked witch & the tornado combined!
Davros… Want a brilliant and intense performance between him and the Doctor. Best Davros story ever?
The Fisher King… Quite simply, not enough screen time.
Odin/The Mire… A wasted opportunity.
Ashilder… Not a fan of that character, at all. Bland, boring, sorry that 2-parter is this series ‘Forest of the night’. However, Rufus Hound’s performance was outstanding as Sam Swift.
The sonic sunglasses… They suck. They really suck.
The guitar playing… Tone it down now.
The humour in this series is on fire, hats off to all the writers.
Can’t wait to see how this series pans out. Overall it’s been a mixed bag of stories and ideas, pretty much a stand alone series. Roll on 15th November and Who Fest!
So far, the best series in the 52 years the programme has been on air (yes, I go back that far). Not one did in the first half of series 9. U deer The Lake/Before The Flood are my favourites so far.
