Rakhee Thakrar has emerged as the new favourite to be cast as the Doctor’s next companion, according to Radio Times.

As speculation regarding the identity of Peter Capaldi’s incoming co-star continues, the website has suggested that the actress will soon be auditioning for the chance to step aboard the TARDIS for Series 10 in 2017. Rakhee will be familiar to fans of EastEnders, having been introduced as Shabnam Masood in 2014. Her praised portrayal of various hard-hitting storylines landed her a nomination for Best Performance at this year’s National Television Awards.

Rakhee bid farewell to Albert Square earlier this year to take on pastures new, which might just turn out to be a stint in the world’s longest running sci-fi franchise to embark on the trip of a lifetime. Only time will tell, but what do you think of the latest developments in the meantime? Would Rakhee be a good choice? Let us know in the comments section…

Filming on Series 10 – to be Steven Moffat’s last as showrunner – will begin this May.
