John discusses Jack meeting the Twelfth Doctor
John Barrowman recently caught up with the Doctor Who Fan Show to talk about his return as Captain Jack in a new Big Finish audio range.
The conversation inevitably turned to Doctor Who, as the actor admitted that he’d love to see how his on screen alter ego would react to the Twelfth Doctor. “I’d like to see Peter’s Doctor meet Jack,” he said. “The Doctor is a little bit older now, so it would be perfect. Plus, Jack has matured a little bit. Would that spark still be there? Would Jack still feel the same way about him?”
Speculation surrounding Jack’s return to Doctor Who is always ongoing, as are rumours regarding Torchwood’s televisual comeback. Last year, he revealed that he was in talks to end its prolonged hiatus, however plans have yet to develop any further. He explained: “I travel around the world and see how much Torchwood is still loved and how much people want it back. I’m really trying to push for it, but Big Finish is a great way to keep it alive.”
While it is awesome that Big Finish Productions has kept Torchwood alive in audio form, millions of avid televised Torchwood fans, Woodies, were left shamelessly stranded. Barrowman’s brilliant portrayal of the hot, charismatic and long-suffering Captain Jack Harkness deserves to be seen as well as heard.
The popularity of Magnum PI was largely responsible to the visual appeal and charisma of Tom Selleck. Likewise Barrowman’s sex appeal to both women and men, along with his ability to portray a broad and dynamic range of emotion on screen was equally instrumental in the popularity of Torchwood.
The TV audience needs Captain Jack Harkness back in new episodes.
