an-adventure-in-space-and-time-and-then-some

The waiting is almost over and now just ONE FULL DAY is all that lies between us and The Day of the Doctor.

Luckily, the final leg of the countdown will be made that little bit easier as the BBC are busy serving up a Royal banquet of Who goodies to keep us occupied in the mean time.

The pre-anniversary build up continues tonight as BBC Four travel back to 1963 to see how the legend began in a repeat of the first EVER serial An Unearthly Child.

The trip down memory lane will be preceded by An Adventure in Space and Time in which a stellar cast retells the story of how the Doctor made it to the screen. Before that the Blue Peter team will launch an exciting new Doctor Who competition over on CBBC and then the highlights of this year’s Doctor Who Prom will be repeated on BBC Three.

As Russell Tovey asks Who is the Doctor?, the Blagger presents his Guide to Doctor Who and that is just the start of the golden festivities! See our full schedule of what’s to come HERE and don’t forget you can catch up on what you may have missed via the iPlayer.

The celebrations will of course culminate on Saturday night in The Day of the Doctor.

tour-the-tardis-plus-other-anniversary-goodies

With just 4 days to go it seems the whole universe is talking about The Day of the Doctor, and BBC News certainly is!

As well as their exclusive set report, they’ve got plenty of Doctor Who to go around as they look back on an epic half a century of the Time Lord with a video summarising “five decades in five minutes”. They’ve also a gallery of the TARDIS tour of Wales but if you’d rather get up close and personal with the police box (and don’t we all!?) you can indulge in this brilliant interactive tour

And speaking of the TARDIS, click HERE to watch production designer Michael Pickwoad discussing his inspirations behind its latest interior. Meanwhile, head writer Steven Moffat teases the nostalgia factor of Saturday’s landmark special… “It will look forward as well as backward,” he revealed. “Otherwise there’s a danger you’re putting a full stop on it…”

Elsewhere, the political and religious connotations within the show have been analysed.

Well, all of that should keep us occupied for a while! So…is it Saturday yet!? *whistles*…

bbc-radio-wales-to-host-special-doctor-who-day

BBC Radio Wales has confirmed that they’ll be dedicating a whole day to Doctor Who in honour of 50th anniversary.

As the tagline suggests, the station’s daytime schedule will be made up of Who related festivities including an exclusive interview between Jason Mohammad and Jenna Coleman plus a live show from the Doctor Who Experience.

“I’m so thrilled that we’re going to celebrate this truly Welsh success story,” said BBC Radio Wales editor Steve Austins.

He added: “Doctor Who’s return in 2005 marked the start of BBC Cymru Wales’ drama success story. It’s fitting therefore that we pay tribute not only to the Doctor but also to all of those involved in making the series from our Roath Lock studios in Cardiff Bay.”
