steven-affirms-peter-is-going-nowhere

Steven Moffat has responded to the ongoing speculation that Peter Capaldi will be leaving Doctor Who next year.

Recent rumours suggested that the Twelfth Doctor actor had decided to bow out of the TARDIS after a handful of feature-length specials to air throughout 2016, culminating in his regeneration. According to the man in charge, however, the incumbent Time Lord is here to stay as pre-production on Series 10 is already well underway. The show itself is in safe hands, too, with the showrunner reaffirming its future for at least “five more years”.

“It’s definitely going to last five more years,” he told Variety. “I’ve seen the business plan, and I think we can go past that, too. It’s television’s own legend so it will just keep going.”

So that’s the future of Doctor Who secured, until the next inevitable tabloid report about its impending doom, of course! Series 9 will continue on Saturday in The Zygon Inversion.

latest-12th-doctor-novels-announced

Three new Doctor Who novels featuring the Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald will be released in the autumn.

To coincide with the premiere of Series 9, fans will be able to get their hands on a trilogy of original adventures including Big Bang Generation by Gary Russell, Deep Time by Trevor Baxendale and Royal Blood by Una McCormack.

They’re expected to be published on 10th September 2015, priced at £6.99 each, and their respective covers are to be finalised. Read their official synopses below.

The new novels will also be available as audiobooks with their readers still to be confirmed.

Big Bang Generation by Gary Russell

“I’m an archaeologist, but probably not the one you were expecting.”

Christmas 2015, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Imagine everyone’s surprise when a time portal opens up in Sydney Cove. Imagine their shock as a massive pyramid now sits beside the Harbour Bridge, inconveniently blocking Port Jackson and glowing with energy. Imagine their fear as Cyrrus “the mobster” Globb, Professor Horace Jaanson and an alien assassin called Kik arrive to claim the glowing pyramid. Finally imagine everyone’s dismay when they are followed by a bunch of con artists out to spring their greatest grift yet.

This gang consists of Legs (the sexy comedian), Dog Boy (providing protection and firepower), Shortie (handling logistics), Da Trowel (in charge of excavation and history) and their leader, Doc (busy making sure the universe isn’t destroyed in an explosion that makes the Big Bang look like a damp squib).

And when someone accidentally reawakens The Ancients of Time – which, Doc reckons, wasn’t the wisest or best-judged of actions – things get a whole lot more complicated…

Deep Time by Trevor Baxendale

“I do hope you’re all ready to be terrified!”

The Phaeron disappeared from the universe over a million years ago. They travelled among the stars using roads made from time and space, but left only relics behind. But what actually happened to the Phaeron? Some believe they were they eradicated by a superior force… Others claim they destroyed themselves.

Or were they in fact the victims of an even more hideous fate?

In the far future, humans discover the location of the last Phaeron road – and The Doctor and Clara join the mission to see where the road leads. Each member of the research team knows exactly what they’re looking for —but only The Doctor knows exactly what they’ll find.

Because only The Doctor knows the true secret of the Phaeron: a monstrous secret so terrible and powerful that it must be buried in the deepest grave imaginable…

Royal Blood by Una McCormack

“The Grail is a story, a myth! It didn’t exist on your world! It can’t exist here!”

The city-state of Varuz is failing. Duke Aurelian is the last of his line, his capital is crumbling, and the armies of his enemy, Duke Conrad, are poised beyond the mountains to invade. Aurelian is preparing to gamble everything on one last battle. So when a holy man, the Doctor, comes to Varuz from beyond the mountains, Aurelian asks for his blessing in the war.

But all is not what it seems in Varuz. The city-guard have lasers for swords, and the halls are lit by electric candlelight. Aurelian’s beloved wife, Guena, and his most trusted knight, Bernhardt, seem to be plotting to overthrow their Duke, and Clara finds herself drawn into their intrigue…

Will the Doctor stop Aurelian from going to war? Will Clara’s involvement in the plot against the Duke be discovered? Why is Conrad’s ambassador so nervous? And who are the ancient and weary knights who arrive in Varuz claiming to be on a quest for the Holy Grail…?

samuel-says-the-doctor-danny-have-friction

Samuel Anderson has revealed that his character won’t always see eye to eye with the Doctor.

The actor was introduced as Danny Pink in last weekend’s episode Into the Dalek and has told Hero Complex that viewers will see “a bit of friction” between the teacher and the Time Lord. “Danny’s a complete opposite to the Doctor,” he elaborated. “He’s an ex-soldier and he’s an ex-soldier for a reason, but the Doctor isn’t sure about that when they first meet. His knowledge of math is also a contributing factor!”

Don’t forget to vote in our homepage poll asking ‘Is Danny Pink a good match for Clara?’

peter-named-tv-personality-of-the-year

Peter Capaldi was named as the TV Personality of the Year at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London last night.

The actor, who is currently brightening up our Saturday nights in his debut series as the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who, was presented with the award by his co-star Jenna Coleman.

“I’ve been very lucky because in the past I’ve received awards for my acting,” he said. “This is the first I’ve received for my personality, which I assume means they’ve never met me.”

He continued: “The reason I’ve got this award is because I got the chance to play the roll of a lifetime twice. Malcolm Tucker in The Thick Of It, and I also got to play Doctor Who. The real people who know the personality of the year are my family who have put with my personality and endured it to the point that I can get this.”

Congratulations, Peter! His predecessor Matt Smith won Best Actor at the awards in 2010.

flashback-friday-peters-doctor-debut

On the eve of Peter Capaldi’s first full-length adventure as the Twelfth Doctor, join us for a Flashback Friday as we relive his debut scene in last year’s 50th anniversary special

In the climactic moments of The Day of the Doctor, the Time War was raging and the Doctors faced their greatest challenge yet as they united to save Gallifrey from the grasp of the Daleks.

Luckily Matt Smith’s Doctor had his previous incarnations to lend a hand (11 pairs of them, to be precise!) but the nation gasped as someone else made an unannounced appearance at the party – just over a month before his expected arrival in the Christmas Special! Better early than late, right?

Of course this isn’t the first time Peter has popped up in the series as in 2008 he portrayed Caecilius in the Series 4 episode The Fires of Pompeii. We’ve been told that his striking resemblance to our new Doctor “is certainly addressed” in the new series. Clone? Long lost twin? Only time will tell…

The feature-length Series 8 premiere Deep Breath airs tomorrow at 7:50pm on BBC One.

lights-out-for-twelfth-doctor-in-new-e-book

Puffin’s Doctor Who e-book series will continue later this year with the arrival of the Twelfth Doctor’s short story to the collection.

Light’s Out has been penned by bestselling author, and co-creator of ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’, Holly Black who has described it as “a huge honour” to write an original adventure for the new Doctor. “I am a big fan of the series and of the Doctor himself,” she said. “He reminds us of our humanity and carries a screwdriver instead of a gun.”

Light’s Out will be available to download as an e-book on 23rd October 2014 for £1.99. It will also be included in the paperback anthology release of ‘12 Doctors, 121 Stories’ which will be published by Puffin on the same day.
