Steven Moffat has responded to the ongoing speculation that Peter Capaldi will be leaving Doctor Who next year.
Recent rumours suggested that the Twelfth Doctor actor had decided to bow out of the TARDIS after a handful of feature-length specials to air throughout 2016, culminating in his regeneration. According to the man in charge, however, the incumbent Time Lord is here to stay as pre-production on Series 10 is already well underway. The show itself is in safe hands, too, with the showrunner reaffirming its future for at least “five more years”.
“It’s definitely going to last five more years,” he told Variety. “I’ve seen the business plan, and I think we can go past that, too. It’s television’s own legend so it will just keep going.”
So that’s the future of Doctor Who secured, until the next inevitable tabloid report about its impending doom, of course! Series 9 will continue on Saturday in The Zygon Inversion.

Big Bang Generation by Gary Russell
“I’m an archaeologist, but probably not the one you were expecting.”
Christmas 2015, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Imagine everyone’s surprise when a time portal opens up in Sydney Cove. Imagine their shock as a massive pyramid now sits beside the Harbour Bridge, inconveniently blocking Port Jackson and glowing with energy. Imagine their fear as Cyrrus “the mobster” Globb, Professor Horace Jaanson and an alien assassin called Kik arrive to claim the glowing pyramid. Finally imagine everyone’s dismay when they are followed by a bunch of con artists out to spring their greatest grift yet.
This gang consists of Legs (the sexy comedian), Dog Boy (providing protection and firepower), Shortie (handling logistics), Da Trowel (in charge of excavation and history) and their leader, Doc (busy making sure the universe isn’t destroyed in an explosion that makes the Big Bang look like a damp squib).
And when someone accidentally reawakens The Ancients of Time – which, Doc reckons, wasn’t the wisest or best-judged of actions – things get a whole lot more complicated…
Deep Time by Trevor Baxendale

In the far future, humans discover the location of the last Phaeron road – and The Doctor and Clara join the mission to see where the road leads. Each member of the research team knows exactly what they’re looking for —but only The Doctor knows exactly what they’ll find.
Because only The Doctor knows the true secret of the Phaeron: a monstrous secret so terrible and powerful that it must be buried in the deepest grave imaginable…
Royal Blood by Una McCormack

Samuel Anderson has revealed that his character won’t always see eye to eye with the Doctor.
The actor was introduced as Danny Pink in last weekend’s episode Into the Dalek and has told Hero Complex that viewers will see “a bit of friction” between the teacher and the Time Lord. “Danny’s a complete opposite to the Doctor,” he elaborated. “He’s an ex-soldier and he’s an ex-soldier for a reason, but the Doctor isn’t sure about that when they first meet. His knowledge of math is also a contributing factor!”
Don’t forget to vote in our homepage poll asking ‘Is Danny Pink a good match for Clara?’

Peter Capaldi was named as the TV Personality of the Year at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London last night.
The actor, who is currently brightening up our Saturday nights in his debut series as the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who, was presented with the award by his co-star Jenna Coleman.
“I’ve been very lucky because in the past I’ve received awards for my acting,” he said. “This is the first I’ve received for my personality, which I assume means they’ve never met me.”
He continued: “The reason I’ve got this award is because I got the chance to play the roll of a lifetime twice. Malcolm Tucker in The Thick Of It, and I also got to play Doctor Who. The real people who know the personality of the year are my family who have put with my personality and endured it to the point that I can get this.”
Congratulations, Peter! His predecessor Matt Smith won Best Actor at the awards in 2010.
