Eve Myles has asked Torchwood fans angered by the BBC’s later Miracle Day premiere date to stand by the series and “be proud of it”.
Yesterday it was confirmed that the new series will begin in the UK six days after its debut on Starz in the US, and the actress, who stars in it as Gwen, has since responded to the news. “We never, ever, ever wanted to take this show away from the original fans,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “We’ve made you the best, best series yet.”
She explains: “It works out that it’ll be a week after the US showing, and obviously we have nothing to do with that. But, just hold on tight. We want them to sit back and enjoy and to stick with us. If it was up to me and John, we’d have it to them straight away, but it’s not. I wish I had the 10 episodes and I can invite them to my house and we could all watch them together. Unfortunately, my house isn’t big enough and I only have one episode myself! Sit tight, because it’s a fantastic ride.”

John Barrowman has described the new series of Torchwood as “the best of both words”, as it serves as an introduction for new audiences while continuing the story for the long term fans.
He’s told AfterElton: “If you’ve been a loyal follower, which we appreciate you being, you’ll be able to pick up and know where we’ve left off. We’ve got references to Ianto, we’ve got references to Doctor Who, but if you’re a new audience member, things will be explained to you as we go along.”
He goes on to talk about what his character, Jack Harkness, is up to at the start of Miracle Day. “You find Jack somewhere on planet Earth, you’re not told where, and he’s trying to keep the Torchwood name off the radar,” he explains. “This snowball starts to get bigger and bigger, and he has to come out of hiding, and he has to protect Gwen, has to go to her rescue. That’s how the team comes back together…”
And if you’re wondering how Jack and (Allons-y) Alonso got on after The End of Time, Part Two, John has provided an answer! “I would have loved to have had a nice scene with Russell Tovey, but he’s got his own career on Being Human,” he says. “If he wants to bite me at any time, he can. Russell T Davies couldn’t have gone to a network and said, “Here’s this character, Captain Jack Harkness, the hero of our show. He’s already got a boyfriend, he’s already got this, he’s already got that…” He couldn’t really do that.”
From 30th June, the interactive play will run in Salford as part of the Manchester International Festival, and was originally only aimed at children. However, due to huge public demand, fans aged 13 and over will be able to attend special peformances which will take place each day at 8pm between 8th-15th July.
