Noel Clarke says show’s become “more ambitious”
Noel Clarke briefly discusses Doctor Who during a recent interview.
The actor portrayed Rose Tyler’s boyfriend Mickey Smith during Series 1, Series 2 and Series 4. He was last seen in The End of Time, Part Two, in which it was revealed that his character had married Martha Jones. He told Radio Times that Matt Smith’s become his favourite Doctor because of his fresh approach. “He just brought something different that I like,” he said. “No disrespect to the others.”
He added: “I’m not going to say them just because I worked with them. Also when Matt got on, the budgets were larger and the show was more ambitious.”
Noel has previously admitted that he feels that he initially played Mickey “quite badly”.
It just goes to show you can disagree with the opinion of anybody
I’d certainly agree that out of the three modern Doctor’s, Matt is (for me) the best and the most true to my idea of what The Doctor should be.
He’s far from impressed me yet. I wouldn’t say it’s a reflection on Matt Smith but rather on Steven Moffat.
The 11th Doctor has been quite plain in terms of identity, though that may change in Series 7. He’s had no impact. If he regenerated tomorrow, I would only watch because I’d want to see the 12th Doctor.
I don’t really care what happens to the 11th Doctor, I genuinely don’t and as I used to be a Doctor Who fan, that’s weird to me.
Apologies for the negativity earlier, been one of those days.
I do want the 11th Doctor to make a much bigger impact though, something that will define exactly who this incarnation is, whilst also demonstrating in the way Tennant and Eccleston did that he’s a Time Lord, not just a thoughtful professor with a time machine.
