David Tennant has once again spoken out about making a comeback during Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary.

“I’ll always be able to come back in the parallel world as the Doctor ages like a normal human,” the actor told The Sun. However, he added that, while it’s “possible”, he is doubtful that former co-star Billie Piper would be as keen to reprise her role as Rose Tyler. He explains: “Yeah, Billie probably wouldn’t come back and that is what would be problematic.” They both last appeared in The End of Time, Part Two.

Recently David said he’s “not confirming nor denying anything” about his potential involvement in the landmark year, while Billie’s previously confirmed that Rose’s “ship has sailed”. The actress will be making her debut at the National Theatre this autumn.

    I don’t think Billie not coming back would be that big a deal if she was that set on it. I think it’d be possible to convince people Rose had just got fed up with him.

    1) He didn’t hesitate to massacre the Dalek fleet.

    2) He was part human with one heart so it’s easy enough to believe that after it sunk in that he would never regenerate and would eventually die, it would get to him.

    3) He picked up some of Donna’s mannerisms and perhaps that would make him a unique person, perhaps not the one Rose loved.

    4) He was stuck not only on Earth, but Earth of a Parallel Universe. Even if you take the 10th Doctor giving the Metacrisis Doctor a piece of Tardis coral as canon, that would still take a long time to grow even with Donna suggesting how to make it grow faster. This, combined with aging and no regeneration, would mean he could live and die on Earth before ever being able to explore Time and Space again, which the Doctor part of him would have hated.

    Who knows what these factors would have done to the Metacrisis Doctor, who was already a bit volatile, how he may have behaved. It’s possible Rose’s…….erm…….rose tinted glasses could be removed because of that and part of who the Doctor was to Rose was the man that travelled in time and space in a blue box. The Metacrisis Doctor can’t be that man and so he isn’t Rose’s Doctor.

    As I said before, I really wouldn’t want Rose to return. Yeah she was great in 2005-06, but do we really care about her enough now? I certainly don’t and I doubt many would miss her if she didn’t take part in the 50th anniversary, especially given how many times she returned in Series 4 and then in The End of Time, Pt 2. She’s just not a character I care enough about to want her to come back, even though I still do watch episodes featuring her.

    I would much rather see classic series companions return, because for me they would represent the 50th anniversary far better than any New Series ones, because they’re part of the show’s origins. Having said that though Captain Jack should definitely should come back, given that he’s yet to meet the Eleventh Doctor and feels more of an integral part of the show’s history than most New Series companions.

    Rose shouldn’t come back, it would shift far too much focus away. And surely if we can choose any previous companion with 2/3 still being alive, there’s a tonne of far better companions than Rose.

    I would love for Rose to come back, because when I think of Doctor Who I think of her and David, she has played a big role in the series! I say… THE MORE THE MARRYER! I hope the 50th will be special! :)

    Most of wouldn’t like what I’m about to say but I’ll say it anyway.

    I’m a little sorry to say this but I would like to see the return of Rose more then I want to see even the return of 10.5. I’m dieing to see Rose meet 11. But more then that I want Rose to meet River and find out that she is the Doctor’s wife.

    Don’t get me wrong. I really don’t think that eather Rose or 10.5 should come back without one another. I sorta think they are a packege deal.

    @Taylor!
    There are NO better conpanions then Rose. Well unless you count River. Those two will always be my two favrite conpanions. No one else comes close to them. We ok Jack comes in third but that’s it.

    I agree that Rose was one of the best companions of Revived Series, but I’ve just thought that she’s had her time, and all her return stints, it’s time she was put to rest for the show.

    If they are going to bring back as many former companions as possible, then of course I will be sad if Rose is not there. But she was never my favourite of the revived series, and I would be even more upset if Donna or Martha weren’t there.

    I would like them to bring back as many classic series companions as possible, and Captain Jack, but definitely not Rose. She has had her time. I wouldn’t mind if they bring Donna and Martha back, but I’ve had enough of Rose.

    I think if they bring the companions back it needs to be during a recollection, that way they could be as we remember them but without playing favorites.

    Not too fussed about any old companions coming back (unless it’s Ace!) David’s Doctor can of course come back without Rose, Or Martha, or anyone else, same as Christopher’s Doc.

    I guess I would like it if Rose did come back but I wouldn’t mind as such if she didn’t. She was the first companion I saw and after the awful companion of Martha, Rose remained my favourite companion. I guess I would understand why Rose wouldn’t come back as she frequently appeared in series 4 and EOT part 2 but I think Billie does deserve at least a cameo in the 50th Anniversary or just a mention

    @TWWL I think if anyone should come back, it is Susan Forman, the Doctor’s only family. It would be awesome to bring Susan back on screen and have her regenerate.

    @Patrick
    Martha was not an awful companion! I really cannot understand why there are so many people who dislike Martha. People accuse her of being whiny, backlashing, needy, clingy, useless and all these things that she never was! I mean, come on. If you accuse Martha of being backlashing, take a look at Rose’s reaction when she realised she wasn’t the Doctor’s first companion or when she met Sarah Jane. Yes, Martha was annoyed that the Doctor took her to the same place as he took Rose, but after she realised how much Rose meant to him, she felt sorry for him and she was happy when he was reunited with Rose. Martha was so intelligent, so brave and so independent as a companion. She didn’t need the Doctor to constantly tell her what to do, she figured it out herself. We all know she fell in love with him, but that doesn’t automatically make her a bad companion! She did so much for the Doctor! She spent months as his maid while he was hiding from the Family of Blood, she walked the Earth for a year to save the world from the Master, she saved the Doctor’s life aboard the spaceship that was crashing into a sun, she took a job in 1969 to support both of them when the Weeping Angels sent them back in time – I could go on for ages! And in the end, she made the choice of leaving the TARDIS, because she knew it was the best thing to do for both of them. And then she came back for a brief adventure with the Doctor and Donna in series 4, she kept working for the man she loved, even when he didn’t love her back. She joined UNIT and Torchwood. And even the Doctor admitted that Martha did him good, that she fixed him after Rose was gone. So no one can say that Martha was an awful companion! If she’s not your favourite, if you feel like you wouldn’t have gotten along with her personality-wise, then that’s fine, but she was not a useless companion!

    (sorry for ranting, I’m just very protective of my favourite companion)

    That is what she showed & its just my opinion of her. Yes but Rose in the end became friends with Sarah Jane.

    Just as a general point, Rose was capable of complaining too.

    I remember in the second to last episode of Series 4, the Subwave Network got through the Martha Jones and Rose said:

    “Who’s she? I want to get through”

    Later, Harriet Jones introduced Martha as Companion to the Doctor:

    “Oi, so was I!”

    Later, Martha says she’s tried to get through to the Doctor, but she can’t:

    “Nor me! and I was here first!”

    I always notice those things about Rose in that episode.
