David says Doctor is role “you can’t ever shrug” off
Time Out has a new interview with David Tennant about his upcoming role in the major ITV drama Broadchurch.
During the discussion, he comments on how his portrayal of the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who continues to affect his day to day life. “You can’t ever shrug it off,” he explained. “It’s a really love thing sometimes – even people who don’t watch it love the idea of it. But you can’t switch it off when you are buying a coffee and want to get home quickly but there are five kids who want a photograph taken.”
He added: “You can’t choose it. It is the deal that changes the practicalities of your life.”
With ongoing speculation surrounding David’s rumoured return for the 50th anniversary, he remained adamant that he is still in the dark, admitting that he is himself “beginning to give up hope anything’s going to happen”. It seems that only time will tell on that one!

He’s not the only one giving up hope, not just for him to return, but the other Doctors too.
You do hope it’s all misdirection, you can just imagine what it’ll be like if it’s not.
The thing I’d say about the fact he was the Doctor following him about on a day to day basis, I can understand how wearing that must be when you just want to do something normal, but I can also see the other side of it.
Fans aren’t deliberately out to make his or any other celebrities life harder. I don’t think the majority mean to disrupt their normal lives, especially kids. I just think they see him and it may be the only chance they’ll ever get to meet him and they want an autograph or photo to remember it, even if he was buying a coffee and in a rush.
I can imagine how difficult it must be to balance your private life whilst walking around looking exactly like the 10th Doctor, lol………..I certainly don’t envy him that, but I can also see the other side of it and how there’s no malice intended by fans.
I am getting to the point where I really don’t care any more. Steven Moffat has no real idea about Doctor Who. At least Big Finish are making a fantastic effort and I am really excited about Light at the end of the tunnel. Bring on the 8 Doctors….
Yeah, I got to see Peter Davison at a Con this past weekend, and he said he’s not been approached by anyone either. (However, he did say that he, McCoy, and Baker may just do their own version of a 50th Anniversary Special. That’s something I’d love to see.)
@Steve
It’s obviously much, MUCH easier for an audio only thing to do a multi-Doctor story. And we still have no idea WHAT the live action special/specials will contain. Nor should we at this early stage. But don’t let that stop the moaning.
