More than 1 million international fans tuned in to the Twelfth Doctor’s reveal on Sunday night, it has been revealed.

The BBC One announcement was simulcast across the world as Whovians finally discovered the identity of the brand new Doctor, with 895,000 joining BBC America for the auspicious occasion. Over in Canada 412,000 people tuned in to Space for the unveiling and in Australia, where fans had stayed up until 4am, the moment was seen by an audience of 40,000. 41,000 have since watched it on ABC’s catch up service.

Also in America the official US Doctor Who Tumblr received well over 11 million views.
