Karen Gillan has described new Time Lord Peter Capaldi as “an amazing choice” but admitted Matt Smith is, and “always will be”, her personal Doctor.

The Amy Pond actress who bowed out of the show last year revealed “it’s weird” to see Matt go because she has grown so accustomed to him being in the TARDIS.

“I guess I’m biased,” she explained. “Peter’s a cool direction to take the character. He’s older, plus he’s Scottish!”

She said: “He’s associated with grumpy Malcolm Tucker which may work for the Doctor.”

The actress recently revealed that she’ll “never stop being grateful” to Doctor Who.
