WATCH: Tribute trailer celebrates 50 years of Who
Five glorious decades of Doctor Who were celebrated in the form of a new trailer which premiered on BBC One tonight!
The special tribute paid homage to the series by taking fans on a journey through time, back to where it all began in that junkyard at 76 Totter’s Lane.
Using state of the art technology the trailer showed all of the Doctors as they first appeared on screen, including William Hartnell who was seen in high res colour for the first time.
It culminated with current Doctor Matt Smith announcing The Day of the Doctor which will be simulcast live worldwide five weeks today on Saturday 23rd November – check out the brilliant trailer below and be sure to let us know what you think in the comments!

Interesting that at the end of the clip, Smith is standing atop that rock formation in the midst of a destroyed San Francisco. The Golden Gate is back there along with the Transamerican Building. Last time San Fran was featured in DW was the McGann movie.
Oh, and the clip itself? FANTASTIC!!!
Loads to see in there.
This clip is AMAZING!
glad I tuned in, at first I thought it was the fan made youtube clip but this was simply amazing
and FIVE WEEKS TO GO… by the way did anyone know it literally is the day of the doctor because it air on Saturdays and that’s doctor who day
@Profzed
Actually I’m prettysure that was the London Shard in the background, so actually London
@Wolfoe
Thanks Wolfoe. And it isn’t the Golden Gate Bridge either, I’m now thinking. The GGB has four cross-bars. The bridge in the clip has only three. Can’t wait to find out what it’s all about!
WOW.
I wasn’t expecting something like this.
This is one of the greatest trailers I have ever seen.
blinking amazing trailer!
was it my imagiotion or did i hear peter capaldis voice??
im sorry for doubting you bbc
it looks to me like hurts incaration could be a result of the doctor’s choices
In the end, the Doctor Who fan in me had to see this trailer so I tuned in especially.
It was a good trailer, it was very nicely shot and the 11th Doctor’s speech was very atmospheric as we’ve come to expect and it was nice to see most of the Doctors in it too (might have missed some, so will have to watch it back a few times, which obviously isn’t a problem).
I have to admit to not being as amazed or as excited as some on here, it’s not the best trailer I’ve ever seen and it tells us very little about the 50th Anniversary itself, which we knew beforehand but still ….
It was a decent length teaser trailer though and in that context, it was well worth tuning in for.
It was a poor trailer to celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who. expected something better, something to make me more excited and more interested in the up coming special. I have seen better fan made trailers on youtube. The BBC should be disgusted with themselves.
They could not even get the flow correctly, Jon Pertwee appeared after Tom Baker. Some Doctor’s images were barely visible. It is a shocking insult to the Program and to the memories of all those who are no longer here to celebrate the show..
However, i would say that if this had been 3d and put together correctly, it could have been inspiring.
Does anyone know why it says ‘no more’ on the girder the camera passes just after Tom Baker? Also, is it just me or is the canyon at the end the shape of the crack in Amy’s wall?
@Joe
Interesting that “No More” is shown right after the 11th speaks the line, “I’ve fought for peace in a Universe at war.”
I saw both the Golden Gate Bridge and the Shard.
OMG, my Dad’s taking my sister and I to see this at the cinema! So excited!
Actually, you’re kind of incorrect… DW hasn’t aired in a while(Not sure about exact release date of Name of The Doctor) @Simon
