Kate O’Mara has confirmed she wouldn’t turn down a chance to return to Doctor Who as the Rani as she believes an older version of the character would be “an interesting concept”.

The actress appeared as the renegade Time Lady in the 80’s and has told Digital Spy that she’d “love to come back”.

“I have white hair now and I’m still glamorous,” she said. “I won’t disappoint, I hope! I’d still be wearing the tight leather trousers and high heel boots, regardless of my age.”

She continued: “There is a huge population of older people who can’t watch Hollyoaks so if you put a much older woman in Doctor Who they’d identify with it. The older woman is often the villainess or terrifying figure. I don’t know why but it’s an idea to be exploited.”

Although Moffat does lie, before people say it, he has said that he doesn’t think he’ll be bringing back The Rani.

As others have said, it’s more than likely they would say she’d regenerated if they were to bring her back.

At a push, they’d probably have her on the show then make her regenerate.

I would like it if the Rani could come back for at least one episode. Its always nice to see an old enemy from the classic series.

I don’t think the Rani got the screen time she deserved, I think that it was a good concept with potential, yet due to the terrible story’s she was in that potential was wasted.

I think Kate O Mara should definitely sign up on Big Finish like Tom Baker and Mathew Watermark have done in recent years, I bet they can make a worthwhile story staring the Rani.

I would love for her to return. She only did the two episodes and I loved her!

You know, generally I’d say no. The Rani isn’t a very famous villain, and I see no real need to get her back. But now that we’re getting an older and somewhat darker Doctor the Rani, played by O’Mara, might actually make for a very good archenemy. I suspect her more serious and straightforward style of villainy could play very well against Capaldi.

I would love to see O’Mara back as the Rani. I enjoy “Mark of the Rani”, but yes, “Time and” was rather bad. The character isn’t the typical villain. She’s isn’t an evil, “I want to conquer the Universe” type. She’s a scientist. Not a “mad” one, just very amoral.

And just because Moff says he won’t bring her back, doesn’t mean he won’t. Russell T. Davies initially said the same thing about the Master. Later, he admitted in interviews that he knew from the start that he was eventually going to bring back the Master. The same could go for Moff regarding the Rani.

As to not being able to bring the character back because “no one knows who she is”… ? No reason to believe that one either. Bringing back the Rani is easy as BEING CREATIVE! And Moff has proven himself adept at that!

Going by the photo accompanying this article, O’Mara looks fantastic. I would hope Moff would have her back in the role instead of going with a new incarnation.

I think it would be great if O’Mara’s ‘Rani’ returned. I think she has such a strong voice and the perfect look and flare. Possibly, even better with age.
Discussion of bringing in different actresses from Zoe Lucker to even the late Amy Whinehouse have appeared in recent times.Obviously mean the character had some impact and i don’t think anyone could do it as well as Kate O’Mara!
Bring back Kate O’Mara is my humble opinion!

I would like it if they brought back both the Master and the Rani. they have worked together in the past and I don’t know how they would bring back the Master but I think it would be great having some timelords back int he mix other than the doctor and river. I sort of miss the Timelords interfering with the doctors life like in the classics, they were just so annoying that when you thought of him as a run away not the man who ended the time war.
