The shortlist for this year’s National Television Awards has been revealed, with Matt Smith and Doctor Who both making it to the final vote off!

Matt’s portrayal of the Doctor has won him a nomination in the Best Drama Performance category. He’s up against Philip Glenister from Ashes to Ashes, David Jason from A Touch Of Frost, and Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the title role in Sherlock, which as you’ll no doubt know was created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.

Meanwhile, Doctor Who is up for the Most Popular Drama gong alongside Shameless, Waterloo Road and Sherlock. Voting is now open and the results will be revealed when the ceremony is broadcast live from the O2 Arena on ITV1 on 26th January.

As always, the very best of luck to Doctor Who and its entire cast and crew! Last year David Tennant won Best Drama Peformance and Doctor Who won Best Drama.

I was all prepared to be facing a huge dilemma when it came to choosing between Sherlock and Doctor Who, and then found it really quite easy to remain true to the Whovian cause. So much for that.

Has everyone seen Steven Moffat’s tweet? “For all those of you who have asked, I will only be happy with an exact draw. I’m counting on you all. #NTAgony” Pressure, guys!

Right. Is there any way that there could be a three-way tie? Because that’s the only way *I’ll* be happy. :P

Why did Series Five, Sherlock and Ashes to Ashes have to be on in the same year?!

Maybe we could set up some kind of elaborate voting system whereby they could all win on different levels? No, hang on, that sounds like first past the post…

I’ve voted. I never watched Sherlock, wasn’t even remotely interested and Benedict’s opinions on Doctor Who, that it’s in some way beneath him, sealed my opinion on him.

Am looking forward to the TV Awards now at the end of the month, hopefully all our votes will result in the ‘right’ result.

It did last year so I hope It does again this year.
