Noel Clarke “not chasing” 50th anniversary return
Noel Clarke has recently revealed that he is not expecting to be invited back to Doctor Who for its 50th anniversary.
The actor, who played Mickey Smith in Series 1, Series 2, Series 4 and The End of Time, Part Two, told Digital Spy that he hasn’t been asked by producers to reprise his role.
“I am sure if I was going to be there I’d already know about it,” he explained. “But I’m not chasing it or begging for it. If they called me then I’m sure there’d be a conversation.”
Clarke – who has previously admitted he feels he initally played Mickey “quite badly” – went on to share his high hopes for the series next year. He said: “I love what Matt brings and I’m sure the 50th anniversary will be no holds barred. I’m sure it’ll be great.”
Naturally there’s been lots of speculation about which familiar faces from the past will be making a comeback during 2013 – Freema Agyeman, David Tennant, Tom Baker, Paul McGann and John Barrowman have all discussed a potential return. Matt Smith has promised that the series is set to enter its landmark year with “all guns blazing”…
Good, I don’t want to see the return of recent companions we had during the RTD era, it just felt wrong somehow and overdone. They barely left before they returned and that only happened once in Classic Who.
The only companion I think should return in Jack, because he’s an irregular companion, so it’d make sense, not least because he’s yet to meet Matt Smith’s Doctor.
I’d love to see Classic Who companions return, but nothing from the RTD era (bar Jack). We’re past that era now and many fans need to realize that and just accept that Doctor Who is a show that’s all about change. So we can’t always remain in the past, stuck to one particular era of the show, otherwise we wouldn’t be where we are today.
