Casting: “Iconic” guest to be revealed at midnight!
The BBC will shortly announce an “iconic star” who will be guest starring in Series 7 of Doctor Who!
The identity of the actor/actress will be confirmed tonight at midnight. It’s likely they will appear in this year’s Christmas Special, as the read through took place last week (below).
Matt Smith recently described this year’s seasonal outing as “magic”. It’ll be the first episode to feature Jenna-Louise Coleman as the Doctor’s new companion.
Already confirmed guest stars for the series include David Bradley, Mark Williams, Diana Rigg, Rachael Stirling, Dougray Scott, David Warner and Rupert Graves.
So, another midnight announcement to look forward to (we’re really being spoiled at the moment)! Which iconic star would you like to see cast? Share your best guesses below…

I’ll take a wild guess and say Ian McKellen; we’ve had Dumbledore, why not Gandalf?
I couldn’t even guess, it could be anyone.
I’d personally like Patrick Stewart to be in it, but then, I’m a TNG fan. The idea of him playing a part in Doctor Who and being Captain Picard of Star Trek would be great.
It’s unlikely to be him though.
@JC
You never know. I’d love Sir Patrick Stewart to appear in Who at some stage, because he’s one of my favourite actors and I’m sure he’d love to appear in it, despite his association with Star Trek.
There are so many ‘iconic’ British actors who’ve yet to appear in the show that it could be anyone. I’d quite like to see Rowan Atkinson make an appearance some time as well.
As much as I would love to see Patrick Stewart guest on Doctor Who (he did portray The Meddler on DW, but that was in an alternative Universe) I would REALLY love it if they held off on casting him as a guest character. Instead, I would love to see Patrick Stewart play the man himself! Do you have to ask WHO I’m talking about?!
Now that would be something, eh? Patrick Stewart, once the Captain of the Enterprise, now the Time Lord in the TARDIS! Oh yeah! Patrick Stewart for Doctor #12!
The only thing about Patrick Stewart having a larger role is the fact he’s 72. Considering the pressure of working on Doctor Who and the shooting schedules, after working on TNG for all those years, I’m not sure he’d want to be the Doctor or be capable of it now.
I have to admit though, Patrick Stewart as a Time Lord is an interesting idea. I think he’d have the gravity to play one quite successfully.
@JC
That last part is the reason I would have liked to have seen Patrick play Rassilon in The End of Time. Not that Timothy Dalton wasn’t fantastic, I just wonder what Patrick would have brought to the role. Or even Brian Blessed.
Anybody see young Benard Cribbins on the Dalek Invasion Of Earth 2150AD on Channel 5 today? (I know it’s off-topic) although I am very excited! Rubbing my eyes because I can’t wait to find out who it is at midnight! :D
I reckon Sir Christopher Lee. Im surprised his name hasn’t been mentioned!
Richard E Grant? who’s that?! :P
@Tom Versey
Disappointing, that was a reasonably big build-up to a pretty mediocre announcement.
So Richard E. Grant’s going to be in Doctor Who, with all due respect, so what?
Yeah! I know! I don’t even know this guy and I waisted all day being so excited for someone I’ve never heard of.
He played a version of the 10th Doctor in a comedy sketch and later the 9th in some tv show…………
