Video: York Maze unveils the world’s biggest Dalek
The world’s biggest Dalek has been unveiled at York Maze!
Created by farmer and Doctor Who fan Tom Pearcy to mark the 50th anniversary of the show, the Dalek is over 300m – 1000ft – long and it has been cut out of an 18 acre field of over one million living maize.
“Like most kids I grew up watching Doctor Who from behind the sofa and fell in love with the show,” Tom said. “I wanted to create a piece of art as a tribute to the 50th anniversary.”
He added: “I wanted to make it interactive so visitors could have their own adventures.”
The maze which also includes images of William Hartnell and Matt Smith was unveiled at a special event last Friday (12th July) with Sixth Doctor Colin Baker on hand to celebrate its grand opening. “It is fantastic to see the interest there is in the 50th anniversary of the show,” he said. “I have been invited to events all over the world but what York Maze have created has to be one of the most imaginative ways to celebrate that I have seen.”
York Maze is the largest maze in Europe and it is open from 13th July to 2nd September.
